Bank Holiday 2025: Why Banks Will Be Closed For Seven Days From July 13 To July 20?

Banks are in for a long week's holiday. To be precise, there are seven holidays queued up for banks, starting from July 13 to July 20th. However, bank holidays vary from city to city. Special occasions such as Beh Deinkhlam, Harela, Death Anniversary of U Tirot Singh, and Ker Puja will take place next week. Also, banks will be closed due to the weekend.

Bank Holiday On Second Saturday:

Banks were closed on July 12th due to the second Saturday holiday.

This was extended to July 13th as it is a Sunday.

Bank Holiday On July 14:

On Monday, July 14, banks will be closed in some regions because of the celebration of Beh Deinkhlam. Shillong is one of the main cities that will see a bank holiday.

Bank Holiday On July 16:

Banks will be closed in cities like Dehradun for Harela celebration on July 16.

Bank Holiday On July 17:

Meanwhile, July 17th is a bank holiday in regions like Shillong due to the Death Anniversary of U Tirot Singh.

From July 14 to July 18, banks will be closed in specific regions, hence not all banks will be shut. The full-fledged normal working days for all banks are on July 15 and July 18.

Bank Holidays On July 19:

Notably, July 19th is a third Saturday, but banks will be closed in Agartala due to celebration of Ker Puja. Since July 19 is a third Saturday, except in Agartala, banks in other places will be open.

Bank Holiday On July 20:

All banks in India will be closed on Sunday, July 20.

Beh Deinkhlam 2025:

Behdienkhlam Festival is the most celebrated Cultural festival among the Pnars. Behdienkhlam (chasing away the Demon of Cholera) is celebrated annually in July after the sowing period, the most important dance festival of the Jaintia tribes. This festival Tour is also an invocation to God, seeking his blessings for a bumper harvest. The women however do not participate in the dancing, as they have an important function of offering sacrificial food to the spirits of the forefathers. The festival held at Jowai is one of the most well-known and recreational festivals in Meghalaya, as per the Government of Meghalaya website.

Harela 2025:

Harela, which is celebrated in the Shravan month marks the advent of the rainy season and it also commemorates the wedding of Lord Shiva and Parvati. On this day, people make small Dikars (small idols of gods and goddesses made of clay) of Gauri, Maheshwar, and Ganesha, to worship them. The bullocks are also given rest on this day and the Harela is sent to friends and family. The festival is significant because it provides an opportunity for the cultivator to test the quality of seeds that he has in his stores, as per TourMyIndia.

Tirot Sing Death Anniversary 2025:

Tirot Sing, also known as U Tirot Sing Syiem, was one of the chiefs of the Khasi people in the early 19th century. He drew his lineage from the Syiemlieh clan. He was Syiem (king) of Nongkhlaw, part of the Khasi Hills. His surname was Syiemlieh. He was a constitutional head sharing corporate authority with his Council, general representatives of the leading clans within his territory. Tirot Sing declared war and fought against the British in attempts to take over control of the Khasi Hills, as per Wikipedia.

Ker Puja 2025:

Ker Puja is a festival held in Tripura, India. The celebration occurs two weeks after the Kharchi Puja to honour Ker, the guardian deity of Vastu Devata. It includes offerings, sacrifices, and a prescribed boundary which both safeguards people from calamities and saves them from external aggression, according to Wikipedia.
