Banks including private and public sector will be closed on July 16th for the celebration of Jagannath Rath Yatra. Also, banks will be closed in some regions for the festival of Harela. However, bank holidays vary from city to city and not necessary every bank in India will be closed on Thursday. Check list here.

Banks are going to be closed in cities like Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, and Imphal on July 16. In the rest of the cities, banks will be operating as normal.

Ratha Yatra 2026:

The Ratha Yatra is held at the city of Puri, in the state of Odisha, India and associated with the deity Jagannath (a form of Vishnu or Krishna). During the festival, three deities (Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra) are drawn by a multitude of devotees in three massive, wooden chariots on bada danda (the grand avenue) to Gundicha Temple, whereby they reside there for a week and then return to the Jagnannath temple. This return trip is referred to as the Bahuda Yatra, as per Wikipedia.

Harela is a festival celebrated every year on 16 July basically in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand state of India and some regions of Himachal Pradesh. It is called Hariyali or Rihyali in the Kangra, Shimla, and Sirmour regions of Himachal Pradesh. It is called Dakhrain in the Jubbal and Kinnaur areas of Himachal Pradesh.
