Bank Strikes In India: Central Govt Employees To Get Salary, Pensions In Advance On Sept-25; How To Check?

Due to the 3-day upcoming bank strike, the government has decided to credit salaries and pensions of central government employees in advance on Friday, September 25, 2026. Associations and unions like the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), consisting of seven unions: AIBEA, AIBOC, BEFI, NCBE, AIBOA, INBEF, and INBOC, will hold protests for three consecutive days from September 28th to 30th, which is expected to disrupt banking facilities.

Central Governments Advance Salary, Pensions On September 25, 2026

According to the Finance Ministry's latest update, a three-day nationwide bank strike has been proposed from 28.09.2026 to 30.09.2026, and there is a likelihood of disruption in banking transactions during the said period. Hence, the Government has decided that the salary/wages/pensions of all Central Government Employees for the month of September 2026 may be drawn and disbursed by the Central Government offices (including Defence, Posts & Telecommunications) on 25th September 2026 (Friday).

Accordingly, the wages for September 2026 of the industrial employees of Central Government may also be disbursed in advance on 25th September 2026.

Not just that, even the pension for September 2026 of all Central Government Pensioners may also be disbursed by Bank/PAOs on 25th September 2026.

Also, the FinMin stated that the salary/wages/pension so disbursed is to be treated as advance payments and will be subject to adjustment after the full month's salary/wages/pension of each employee/pensioner is determined. The adjustment, if any, will be made without exception from the salary/wages for October 2026.

"As the strike period coincides with the closing days of the current quarter, payments and other banking transactions scheduled towards the end of September 2026 may also be processed in advance, wherever feasible, to avoid delays and disruptions," it added.

Bank Strike From September 28-30

UFBU which claims to represent 90% of banking employees, is leading the strike. The strike earlier took place on September 11, 2026, and will be further extended to September 28th, 29th and 30th. The unions have warned that the strike will be continuous from October 26, 2026.

The union has called for the withdrawal of the government's Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which they describe as unilateral and discriminatory, its modification through bilateral talks, and the resolution of a wider set of residual issues. They also demand improvement in pensions, a dearness allowance formula for all pensioners, and an option for employees to switch from the National Pension Scheme (NPS) to old pension scheme.

How To Check Salary and Pensions Credited in Bank Accounts?

1. Mobile banking app—Firstly, log in and check the available balance and account statement/transaction history. A salary credit will normally appear as a credit transaction.

2. SMS alert—If you have enabled SMS notifications permission to your banking apps, then alerts of every transaction you will receive on your normal SMS. Hence, keep an eye on any SMS updates from your banks regarding salary credit. Some banks provide salary-credit alerts; for example, ICICI lists "salary credit" among its SMS alerts.

3. ATM—Use Balance Enquiry or Mini Statement. This is another method! You can visit your bank's nearby ATM and simply insert your debit card and review your account's balance sheet. The updated balance in your account will appear on the small ATM screen. SBI has stated that its ATM balance inquiry shows the real-time available balance and its mini statement shows recent transactions.

4. Net banking—You can log in to your internet banking account on your computer, tab or laptop. Select for account statement and look for entries such as SALARY / SAL CREDIT / NEFT / ECS / employer name, depending on how your employer processes payroll.

5. Bank customer care—If there is any glitch or the apps are not working or internet problem, you can still call your bank's official helpline and check the balance/last transactions.
