Big Relief for Senior Citizens & Persons With Disabilities! IPPB’s Face Authentication Ends OTP & Fingerprint!

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has launched Aadhaar-based face authentication for banking transactions. This means that now, instead of entering an OTP or scanning your fingerprint, you can verify your identity with just a facial scan, quite literally, your smile becomes your password.

This cutting-edge feature has been developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and marks a major shift in how customers can interact with banking services, especially for those who have traditionally faced challenges with biometric or mobile-based verifications.

What Is Aadhaar Face Authentication in Banking?

Under this new system, IPPB customers can authenticate banking transactions using facial recognition linked with Aadhaar data. The technology captures the live image of a customer's face and matches it with the photo stored in their Aadhaar profile, instantly verifying their identity.

There is no need to input OTPs, touch fingerprint scanners, or remember complicated passwords. All it takes is a quick scan of your face, making the process faster, smoother, and more secure.

Beneficial For Senior Citizens and Person With Disabilities

This breakthrough is particularly beneficial for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and individuals whose fingerprints have faded due to age or manual labor. Traditionally, these groups have faced difficulties using biometric verification systems or receiving OTPs on their mobile phones. With the introduction of face authentication, these hurdles are eliminated. Users simply need to look into a camera to authenticate and complete their banking transactions, restoring ease and dignity to their financial interactions.

The new system also proves invaluable during medical or emergency situations. For individuals who are unwell, bedridden or otherwise unable to physically interact with biometric devices or mobile phones, face authentication offers a contactless, convenient solution.

Whether it is paying bills, sending money, or checking balances, all tasks can now be performed with minimal effort and no physical contact-something especially vital in critical healthcare scenarios.

According to IPPB Managing Director and CEO R. Visvesvaran, the goal behind this innovation is not just technological advancement but restoring dignity and independence in banking. "We want banking to be not just accessible but also dignified. This technology is a way to bring together people who have been left behind due to OTP or biometrics," he stated.
