EPFO 3.0 Update: Will You Get A Separate ATM Card To Withdraw the Amount? Here’s What We Know So Far
EPFO 3.0 Update: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation is planning to make provident fund withdrawals faster by allowing eligible members to access their money through UPI and ATM transactions. But when will these services go live? Will EPFO members get a separate ATM card for withdrawals? What will be the withdrawal limit? Let's understand.
EPFO Digital Upgrade
The EPFO is working on a wider digital upgrade to simplify the services for its members. Several media reports have suggested that EPFO may launch its PF-linked withdrawal options through UPI apps and ATM cards. Amid this push, several media reports have suggested that EPFO may soon introduce PF withdrawals through UPI apps and ATM cards. While the feature was earlier expected to be rolled out by the end of June, the timeline now appears likely to be delayed, with no official confirmation from EPFO as July approaches.

EPFO 3.0 Withdrawal Limit
As of now, EPFO members can withdraw 75% of the available balance under specific conditions. The withdrawal limit is likely to remain same as there has been no official announcement regarding the same.
Under the current framework, withdrawals depend on the reason for the claim, employment status, service period and other eligibility conditions. In some cases, eligible members can withdraw up to 75% of their EPF balance after unemployment for a specified period. The remaining balance is generally linked to continued retirement savings or later settlement.
Several reports have suggested that the new digital system may allow instant access to up to 75% of the available EPF balance. However, this should be read with caution until EPFO releases formal rules.
Will You Get Separate ATM Cards For PF Withdrawal?
The EPFO is likely to introduce PF-linked ATM cards. These ATM cards may allow subscribers to withdraw permitted amounts from ATMs, similar to a debit card, as per Media reports. Goodreturns couldn't independently verify these claims, and an official announcement regarding the same is awaited.
EPFO is also expected to introduce PF-linked ATM cards. These cards may allow subscribers to withdraw permitted amounts from ATMs, similar to a debit card. Reports have suggested that members may need to retain at least 25% of their EPF balance, though EPFO has not yet issued final public instructions on this condition.
For members, the biggest practical change will be convenience. Emergency withdrawals for eligible reasons may become easier, especially for workers who find the existing online claim process difficult. Faster access may also help subscribers who need funds during job loss, medical emergencies or other approved circumstances.
