The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has introduced new rules for Aadhaar-UAN linking to make the process faster & simpler for its subscribers. EPFO, in its latest circular on August 13, stated the changes which will cut down the paperwork, reduce approval delays, and also provide seamless access to provident fund services.
New Rules in EPFO
Direct Aadhaar-UAN Linking Made Easy
EPFO has now made it possible to directly link Aadhaar with UAN if personal details such as name, gender, and date of birth match across Aadhaar and EPFO records. Members can approach their employer, who can seed Aadhaar with UAN using the KYC functionality available on the employer portal.
EPFO Approval Not Required
Unlike before, this step does not require additional EPFO approval, removing delays caused by multiple verification layers.
Simplified Process for Fixing Mismatched Details
If Aadhaar and UAN details do not match, a simplified JD process has been introduced. Employers can now file an online JD request to correct errors in name, gender, or date of birth. If a wrong Aadhaar has been linked, it can be replaced with the correct Aadhaar through the JD functionality. Members may also submit a physical JD form at the EPFO regional office, attested by an authorised person. The PRO will verify and update details online.
Importance of Aadhaar-UAN Linking
The UAN (Universal Account Number) is a 12-digit unique number allotted to every EPFO member, which remains the same even when switching jobs. Once Aadhaar is seeded and verified with UAN, members can directly access EPFO services without relying on employers.
Additionally, online PF transfers, withdrawals, and pension settlements become faster. Claim rejections due to mismatched details are minimised.
Step-by-Step Guide to Link Aadhaar with UAN via UMANG App
EPFO has also outlined the simple steps for members to complete Aadhaar-UAN seeding online:
Step 1: Enter your UAN on the UMANG app. Step 2: Confirm the OTP sent to your UAN-linked mobile number. Step 3: Provide your Aadhaar details. Step 4: Confirm the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile and email. Step 5: Once verified, your Aadhaar gets linked with UAN successfully.
Relief Measures for Minor Beneficiaries
EPFO has made it easier for minor beneficiaries to receive provident fund claims in case of a member's death. Now, if the settlement amount is credited directly into the child's bank account, there is no need for a separate guardianship certificate. EPFO officials will also help claimants open bank accounts in the minor's name so that PF settlement amounts and pension dues can be deposited quickly without delays.
