EPFO Credited 8.25% To Your Account? Here’s How Can You Check The Balance

The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has started updating member accounts earlier than usual this year. The 8.25% interest for the financial year 2024-25 is now being added to most accounts.

"Over 96.51% of EPF accounts have already received the interest. The rest are expected to be updated by the end of this week," said Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on 8th July.

This year, EPFO had to update accounts for 13.88 lakh companies and 33.56 crore accounts. As of July 8, interest has been added to 32.39 crore accounts, covering 99.9% of companies and 96.51% of total accounts, according to PTI report.

The government approved the 8.25% interest rate on May 22, and EPFO began updating accounts from June 6. Mandaviya also said that, "this year's update was much faster, last year it began in August and ended in December, but this year it was mostly done in June."

You could among individuals who had received EPFO 8.5% interest. Here are 4 simple ways to check your EPF balance:

1. UMANG App

• Download the UMANG app.
• Log in using your mobile number and OTP.
• Go to EPFO → View Passbook.
• Enter your UAN and OTP to see your balance.

2. EPFO Website

• Visit epfindia.gov.in.
• Click: Services → For Employees → Member Passbook.
• Log in with your UAN and password.
• Select the Member ID (if you've worked at more than one place).

3. Missed Call

• Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.
• You'll get an SMS with your balance details.

4. SMS

• Send this message: EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899.
• Replace "ENG" with your preferred language code (like HIN for Hindi, TAM for Tamil, etc.).

You can follow the steps below if you have checked your EPFO balance and want to remove the amount from your EPF account.

1. Using the EPFO UAN Portal

• Visit the UAN Member Portal.
• Log in → Go to Online Services → then click on Claim (Form-31, 19, 10C).
• Enter bank details, choose the reason, and submit using Aadhaar OTP.

2. Using the UMANG App

• Go to EPFO → Raise Claim.
• Fill the form and complete Aadhaar eKYC.

However, You can withdraw your full PF amount only if you have been unemployed for at least 2 months. Partial PF withdrawal is allowed for specific needs like medical treatment, buying a house, or marriage. If you lose your job and remain unemployed for more than 1 month, you can take an advance of up to 75% of your PF balance.

The withdrawal process usually takes about 5 to 10 working days. You can track the status of your claim on the UMANG app or the EPFO website.

To avoid delays in your PF withdrawal, make sure your UAN (Universal Account Number) is active and your KYC (Know Your Customer) details are fully updated. Also, link both your Aadhaar and PAN with your EPF account.
