Providing relief to a large number of Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) subscribers, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline once again for activating Universal Account Numbers (UAN) under the Employees' Enrolment Campaign-linked Employees' Life Insurance (ELI) scheme.

EPFO ELI scheme: Last Date to Apply

The revised cutoff date to activate your UAN and qualify for the scheme's benefits is now set for June 30. This deadline extension gives additional time to thousands of unorganised sector and contractual workers who have either not activated their UANs or have inactive accounts.

What is EPFO ELI scheme?

The Employees' Life Insurance or ELI scheme, officially called the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) scheme, provides life insurance coverage to EPF members. If an employee passes away while in service, their nominee is eligible to receive a lump sum benefit of up to Rs 7 lakh.

How to Activate EPF UAN Using Aadhaar-Based OTP?

As per government notification, employees can activate their UAN through a simple Aadhaar-based OTP (One-Time Password) verification process. Follow these easy steps to activate your UAN and become eligible for benefits under the Employees' Life Insurance scheme:

Step 1: Visit the official EPFO Member Portal.

Step 2: Under the "Important Links" section, click on "Activate UAN."

Step 3: Fill in the required details, including your UAN, Aadhaar number, full name, date of birth, and the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.

Step 4: Make sure your mobile number is linked with your Aadhaar to access the complete range of EPFO's online services.

Step 5: Agree to proceed with Aadhaar-based OTP verification.

Step 6: Click on "Get Authorisation PIN" to receive a one-time password on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

Step 7: Enter the OTP received to complete the activation process.

After successful activation, a system-generated password will be sent to your registered mobile number. Once your UAN is activated, you will be able to use EPFO's full suite of digital services-such as checking your Provident Fund (PF) balance, downloading your PF passbook, submitting claims for withdrawals or advances, updating personal details, initiating transfers, and tracking claims in real time.
