EPFO Launches WhatsApp Channel for PF Balance, Claim Status; Step-by-Step Guide to Check Your PF Account Detai

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has launched an official WhatsApp channel, giving its crore-plus members, pensioners, and employers a new way to access PF-related information without logging into the website or the UMANG app.

EPFO announced the channel through a post on X on September 13th, saying it would share important updates and useful information with members directly on WhatsApp.

How the process works

Members can join the official EPFO WhatsApp channel using the link or QR code shared in EPFO's announcement, and the service starts once a member sends a simple "Hello" message to begin the interaction.

Communication on the channel is expected to happen through the mobile number a member already has registered with their Universal Account Number, or UAN, since the system verifies whether the request is coming from that same registered number before proceeding.

Once verified, users are shown menu options and can respond to simple prompts or submit specific details to retrieve their information; the system processes these requests either through an AI-powered chatbot or by pulling records directly from the EPFO database.

Early reports on the launch indicate the WhatsApp channel will let members check their PF account balance, view their claim status, and see their last few transactions, effectively bringing several passbook-style functions onto WhatsApp.

EPFO has not yet published a detailed, official breakdown of every service available through the channel, nor has it specified response times, transaction limits, or what happens if number verification fails.

Members are advised to follow the options that appear after joining the channel and to rely on EPFO's official communication for service-specific instructions as more details emerge.

Other ways to check your PF balance

Until the WhatsApp channel's full scope is confirmed, EPFO's existing balance-check options remain active.
Members can send an SMS reading "EPFOHO UAN ENG" (replacing ENG with the first three letters of their preferred language) to 7738299899 from their UAN-registered number.

Give a missed call to 9966044425 from the same number to instantly receive an SMS with their PF details.
The UMANG app and EPFO's own member e-Sewa portal continue to offer full passbook access after UAN and OTP-based login.
