EPFO To Credit 8.5% Interest For 2019-20 Soon: Here's How To Check PF Balance

After the stock markets have turned strong, the EPFO has decided to credit interest of 8.5% in the account of around six crore subscribers for 2019-20 by December end in one go. This is contrary to earlier decision of the retirement fund body wherein it decided to split 8.5% interest into two portions of 8.15% and the remaining 0.35% in the trustees meet led by Union labour minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

Also, amid the pandemic, the EPFO has relaxed withdrawal norms from the EPF kitty and on Wednesday Santosh Gangwar said the EPFO has settled 52 lakh COVID-19 non-refundable advance claims, and disbursed ₹13,300 crore so far. In the Covid led relaxation, EPF subscribers have been allowed to withdraw a sum not exceeding their three month basic pay and DA from their EPF corpus.

And to check your EPF balance and whether or not EPF interest rate has been credited into your account, you can use any of these methods:

1. For fetching your details with the EPFO, you need to dial on 011-22901406 from the mobile number registered with UAN account.
2. The call will get disconnected automatically after two rings. The service is free of cost.
3. To avail the service, however the prerequisite is that the subscriber's KYC should be complete with the EPFO.

A member registered with the EPFO members' portal can log in tohttps://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login# using his or her UAN and password. And herein you can review your EPF passbook.

For receiving balance details via SMS, EPF subscriber can send an SMS from the registered mobile number writing EPFOHO and send it to 7738299899. The format for the SMS has to be "EPFOHO UAN". The facility is available in 10 languages and for receiving the message in Hindi, a person will need to type 'EPFOHO UAN HIN' and send it to 7738299899.

Umang application can also be used for knowing the EPF account balance and viewing the EPF account statement. Here you need to click on view passbook option under employee-centric services. You need to enter UAN and key in the OTP sent on your registered mobile number.
