After the stock markets have turned strong, the EPFO has decided to credit interest of 8.5% in the account of around six crore subscribers for 2019-20 by December end in one go. This is contrary to earlier decision of the retirement fund body wherein it decided to split 8.5% interest into two portions of 8.15% and the remaining 0.35% in the trustees meet led by Union labour minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar.
Also, amid the pandemic, the EPFO has relaxed withdrawal norms from the EPF kitty and on Wednesday Santosh Gangwar said the EPFO has settled 52 lakh COVID-19 non-refundable advance claims, and disbursed ₹13,300 crore so far. In the Covid led relaxation, EPF subscribers have been allowed to withdraw a sum not exceeding their three month basic pay and DA from their EPF corpus.
