EPS-95 Pension Update: Check Life Certificate Rules, Validity and How to Submit It From Home

For many EPS-95 pensioners, the monthly pension is an important part of managing regular household expenses. But one annual requirement can determine whether those payments continue smoothly: the Life Certificate, or Jeevan Pramaan Patra. Pensioners who fail to renew their certificate within its validity period could face a temporary interruption in their pension payments.

EPS-95 Pension News: Missed Life Certificate Can Interrupt Monthly Pension, Check Rules

The certificate is used to establish that the pension beneficiary is alive and remains eligible for the pension. It is generally required every 12 months and must be submitted through the pension disbursing authority, such as the concerned bank or post office.

EPS-95 Pension: Over 85 Lakh Pensioners Rely on Monthly Payments; Check Latest Government Data

The Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995, covers more than 85 lakh pensioners. Government data showed that 85,84,604 pensioners were receiving EPS pensions as of March 31, 2026, with Rs 15,819.28 crore disbursed under the scheme up to that date.

For pension-dependent households, even a temporary delay can put pressure on monthly budgeting. Rent, groceries, utility bills, healthcare expenses and other recurring commitments may have to be met from limited savings when pension credit is interrupted.

Jeevan Pramaan Certificate: Check Your 12-Month Validity

EPS-95 pensioners should not assume that everyone has the same annual submission deadline. The relevant date is generally linked to when the previous Life Certificate was submitted.

Pensioners should therefore keep a record of their last successful submission and arrange the next certificate before the 12-month validity period expires. Checking the certificate status after submission can also help identify any problem before it affects the next pension payment.

What Happens If Your Life Certificate Expires?

If the pension authority does not have a valid Life Certificate after the previous one expires, pension payments may be stopped until the required verification is completed.

A missed certificate does not ordinarily mean that the pension entitlement itself disappears permanently. Once a valid certificate is submitted and accepted, the pension can be restored, with any eligible pending amount processed according to the rules and the pension disbursing authority's records.

However, waiting until a payment is missed can create unnecessary financial stress. Problems such as incorrect details, Aadhaar-related issues or unsuccessful authentication can sometimes require additional processing.

EPS-95 Pension: How to Submit Life Certificate From Home

Eligible pensioners can use the Jeevan Pramaan digital system to submit a Digital Life Certificate. Aadhaar-based face authentication provides one option for completing the process using a compatible smartphone, which can be particularly useful for elderly beneficiaries who find travelling to a bank or post office difficult.

The pensioner needs the required Aadhaar and mobile details, along with pension-related information. The face-authentication process uses the smartphone's camera to verify the beneficiary.

After successful authentication and submission, the pensioner receives confirmation on the registered mobile number. The digitally generated certificate can then be downloaded and retained for personal records.

Can Family Members Help With Jeevan Pramaan?

Pensioners who are unfamiliar with smartphone applications can take assistance from a family member or caregiver. The pensioner still needs to be available for the required authentication process.

Those who prefer an offline route can approach participating bank branches, post offices, Common Service Centres and other authorised service points. Depending on the facility available, biometric authentication using fingerprint or iris verification may also be offered.

Some banks and India Post Payments Bank also provide doorstep Digital Life Certificate facilities for eligible senior citizens and pensioners, although availability and charges can differ.
