Free Electricity In Karnataka? BESCOM's Advisory For Gruha Jyoti Scheme Verification; Which Documents You Need

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) is responsible for providing electricity to eight districts in Karnataka. Starting from July 1st, BESCOM has announced verification for the Gruha Jyoti scheme at your doorstep. This scheme offers free electricity up to 200 units per month to residents in Karnataka.

Notably, BESCOM has issued a new advisory for Gruha Jyoti scheme verification.

Through its X, BESCOM said, "Gruha Jyothi Beneficiary Verification at your doorstep."

It added, "BESCOM meter readers will visit your home to verify documents and assist with the application process through a mobile app."

To ensure eligible beneficiaries continue to receiving the benefits of the Gruha Jyoti scheme, BESCOM said, their meter readers will visit your doorstep. They will collect the required documents and assist you in filing the application."

The documents include --- Aadhaar card, Voter ID, Ration Card, Caste Certificate (if appplication, Passport-Size Photograph and Rent Agreement (if applicable).

The Gruha Jyoti scheme offers free electricity up to 200 units per household per month. All households including tenants and renters or property owners can apply for the scheme.

To identify the eligibility of the customers, BESCOM calculates household's average electricity consumption from April 2022 and March 2023.

Gruha Jyoti Scheme Eligibility

- Only people residing in Karnataka State can apply under this scheme.

- Only domestic/resident household connection is eligible.

- Tenants can get the benefit even when the meter is in the house owner's name.

- A house owner will get the scheme benefit for only one electric meter connection.

- Non-residents residing in Karnataka can also get the scheme benefit when residing in Karnataka.

- The Aadhaar card should be linked with the account/consumer ID of the electricity bill.

How to Register for the Gruha Jyoti Scheme Karnataka?

Step 1: Visit the official Seva Sindhu portal and click on the 'Gruha Jyoti' scheme option available on the dashboard.

Step 2: Select the preferred language, such as English or Kannada.

Step 3: Enter the required details, including:

• ESCOM name (BESCOM, MESCOM, HESCOM, etc.)
• Account ID or Connection ID mentioned on the electricity bill
• Account holder or owner name
• House address
• Type of occupancy (Owner, Tenant or Family Member)
• Aadhaar number
• Applicant name and mobile number

Step 4: Tick the declaration checkbox, complete the CAPTCHA verification and click on 'Submit'.

Step 5: After successful submission, an acknowledgement number will be sent to the registered mobile number or email ID through SMS or email. Save the acknowledgement for future tracking and reference.
