Gas Cylinder New Rules: What Are 30-Day & 90-Day Rules? Can You Reactivate Indane, HP, BP Gas Once Terminated?
The gas cylinder booking in India has seen a significant shift since the US-Israel-Iran war. A host of new rules for LPGs have been announced in the past three months. Some of them are 25-day and 45-day booking intervals for LPG refills. While the latest rules are of 30-day to 90-day LPG-PNG connection protocols. The main goal is to reduce dependency on LPGs to curb supply crunches and tackle black marketing. Furthermore, the government and oil marketing companies have emphasized 'One Household, One Gas Connection,' which is also properly termed as 'No Dual Connection.'
Gas Cylinder New 30-Day Rule

This rule is related to both LPG-PNG customers. On May 25th, the government notified the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026.
Under this rule, the government gives Indian household customers a 30-day period to terminate their LPG connections, whether they are with Indane Gas, HP Gas or Bharat Gas.
"Consumers may apply for termination of the LPG connection within 30 (thirty) days of obtaining PNG connection," the rule says.
Hence, if you get your PNG connections, let's suppose on June 23, 2026, you will have exactly 30-days to remove your LPG connections. For this example, the deadline will be July 23, 2026.
Gas Cylinder New 90-Day Rule
There is immense confusion regarding the 90-day rule. What has happened is that on March 24th, the government announced that all LPG customers who have PNG infrastructure in their area must switch to PNG connections. These customers were given a three-month time frame to switch to PNG. If they fail to do so, their connections is said to be suspended.
Many reports claim that the deadline ended on June 22nd. But if we follow the date of order, the deadline could either end on June 24th. But the possibility of the deadline on June 30th cannot be ruled out as well.
Also, in March, Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal urged citizens to start applying for PNG connections in areas where the service is available by June 30, 2026, and avoid the risk of losing their LPG connection.
Hence, there is a confusion when the deadline will end. What customers need to know is that while the timeframe was of 3 months, the government has not fixed any deadline to suspend LPG.
Also, the new order on May 25th is an extension of the rule that offers a relief as well.
It means irrespective of the order or deadline, you have the option to reconnect your LPG.
On May 25th, the Oil Ministry said, "Consumers may obtain a transfer voucher for future restoration of LPG connection in a non-PNG area." This amendment provides significant relief and flexibility to consumers who may subsequently shift to areas where PNG infrastructure may not be feasible.
Also, the provision is particularly beneficial for transferable employees, migrant households, tenants, students, and/or families shifting to non-PNG areas.

Gas Cylinder Booking 25-Day and 45-Day Rules?
Among the first few rules that the government introduced in effect of the West Asia conflict was 25-days and 45-days rule for LPG refills.
The 25-day rule is applicable for customers in urban areas and the 45-day rule applies to customers in rural areas. This means you will have to wait for this period to refill your LPGs. Earlier, the booking interval gap was 21-days.
Last week, Oil Ministry said the Government has already implemented several rationalization measures on both the supply and demand sides, including enhancing refinery production, increasing the booking interval from 21 to 25 days in urban areas and up to 45 days in rural areas, and prioritising sectors for supply.
Apart from this, the government has emphasized on booking LPG cylinders through online methods. Since the West Asian conflict, online LPG cylinder bookings have increased to about 99% on an industry basis.
