Gas Cylinder New Rules From July 1: What Has Changed For Indane, HP Gas, BharatGas, LPG Booking, PNG, More?
Several new rules relating to LPG connections, cylinder deliveries and subsidy verification are set to come into effect from **July 1, 2026**, impacting customers of Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas across the country.
The revised measures are aimed at improving transparency, preventing misuse of subsidised cylinders and strengthening customer verification. While many consumers may notice only minor procedural changes, beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and regular domestic LPG users should be aware of the updated requirements before booking their next refill.

Here are the key changes that customers need to know.
### 1. e-KYC Becomes Mandatory For Subsidy Benefits
Customers covered under the PMUY scheme are required to complete their electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification. Those who fail to complete the process may experience delays or temporary suspension of LPG subsidy payments until their details are verified.
### 2. OTP-Based Cylinder Delivery Continues
Oil marketing companies have expanded the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system across more cities. Customers will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on their registered mobile number, which must be shared with the delivery executive before the LPG cylinder can be handed over.
The measure is intended to ensure cylinders are delivered only to genuine consumers.
### 3. Registered Mobile Number Is Essential
Consumers are advised to ensure that their current mobile number is linked to their LPG connection. OTP-based delivery, booking updates and service notifications are sent only to the registered number, making timely updates important.
### 4. Stricter Subsidy Verification
Government agencies and oil marketing companies are strengthening subsidy verification to identify duplicate, inactive or ineligible LPG connections. Customers may be asked to update their identity or address details if discrepancies are found during verification.
### 5. Restrictions On Frequent Refill Bookings
To discourage misuse and commercial diversion of domestic cylinders, refill bookings may be restricted within a specified period after the previous delivery. Customers attempting to book multiple cylinders within a short interval may have to wait until they become eligible.
### 6. Improved Digital Booking Services
Consumers can continue to book LPG cylinders through mobile apps, company websites, WhatsApp services, customer care numbers and authorised distributors. Digital platforms are expected to remain the preferred mode for refill bookings and service requests.
### 7. PNG Customers May Also See Tariff Revisions
Apart from LPG users, households connected to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) networks may witness periodic tariff revisions depending on changes in natural gas prices and regulatory decisions. Any revision will be communicated by the respective city gas distribution company.
### 8. Identity Verification During Delivery
Delivery personnel may request additional identity confirmation in certain cases, particularly where customer records require verification or where the registered details have recently been updated. This is part of efforts to improve delivery accuracy and prevent fraudulent claims.
### 9. Digital Records To Reduce Fraud
Oil marketing companies are increasingly relying on digital records to monitor refill patterns, subsidy claims and customer information. The use of electronic verification is expected to reduce duplicate connections and improve the efficiency of subsidy distribution.
### 10. Customers Should Keep Documents Updated
Consumers are encouraged to regularly update their Aadhaar-linked details, address, mobile number and other KYC information with their LPG distributor. Keeping records current can help avoid interruptions in subsidy payments, booking services or future verification exercises.
### What Customers Should Do
To ensure uninterrupted LPG services, customers should complete any pending e-KYC formalities, verify that their registered mobile number is active and linked to their LPG connection, and keep identity documents updated with their distributor. Those receiving LPG subsidies should also periodically check their bank account and LPG portal to confirm that subsidy transfers are being credited without issues.
While the revised rules are primarily intended to improve transparency and curb misuse of domestic LPG cylinders, most genuine consumers are unlikely to face inconvenience if their records are complete and up to date. Staying informed about the latest guidelines can help ensure hassle-free LPG bookings and timely cylinder deliveries throughout the year.
