The government has revised its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, on May 25, 2026. The amendment aims to provide additional relaxation and convenience to domestic LPG consumers who subsequently obtain Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections.

Under the new rule, the moment you obtain PNG connections, you will have 30 days time to terminate your LPG connections.

LPG Connection Transfer Voucher

Since customers are asked to terminate their LPG connection within 30 days of getting PNG, the government has announced a provision that allows these customers to restore their LPG connection.

Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, HP Gas Connections To Be Cut In June 2026?

In March, the government made it mandatory for customers to switch to PNG if they have the infrastructure in their locality. If they fail to do so, their LPG connections will be cut automatically. The main reason for the rule is to ensure dependency on LPG is reduced, curb black marketing and hoarding, and distribute LPG to those households that have no PNG-infrastructure.

Hence, if you have a PNG facility in your area, you are required to switch to piped gas instead of gas cylinders. The three-month deadline is expected to end in June 2026.

One Household, One Gas Connection

Among many measures, the government is also pushing for "One Household, One Gas Connection" rule. The OMCs are emphasizing switching to PNG and surrendering LPG wherever possible.

Surrender LPG Connections

OMCs have already started to identify customers with both LPG and PNG connections. These customers are receiving messages to surrender their LPG connection and switch to only on PNG.

PNG Customers Banned From New LPG

To lessen dependency on LPG, the government has banned PNG customers from applying new LPG connections or refilling LPG.

Gas Cylinder Booking Lock-In Period

It will be keenly watched if OMCs will revise their lock-in period of 25-days and 45-days for LPG refilling. Due to the crisis, the government extended the LPG purchase gap to 25-days for urban area customers and 45-days for rural area customers. Earlier, the gap was at 21-days.

LPG Gas Cylinder KYC Rules

The government will continue to tighten the KYC norms for buying LPG to avoid black marketing, hoarding and mishandling. Rules like

It is mandatory for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to update their KYC. It is mandatory for unauthenticated users to carry an LPG biometric Aadhaar for authentication. Those who have already done the process are not required to do it again.

The reason behind this is to ensure genuine customers receive the benefits under PMUY, prevent misuse of subsidies and tackle any diversion in gas cylinders.

LPG Cylinder Timing

Many states and cities have announced their own measures for seamless delivery of LPG. Among them is Pune who has ordered to ensure domestic LPG cylinders are delivered within 96 hours of booking. They have also prohibited direct distribution of LPGs from gas agencies or godowns.

Ethanol Stove Cheaper Than LPG?

He claims this is cheaper than LPG gas.

OTP-Mandatory For LPG Delivery

Among many rules, the government has made OTP-based LPG delivery mandatory. If you do not get an OTP on your registered mobile number, you will not receive the delivery of LPG. This is aimed at transparency in delivery and curb black marketing.

Online Booking For LPG Gas Cylinders

Since the US-Israel-Iran war started, the oil ministry has urged Indian household to book their LPG digitally rather than standing in long queues. The latest data showed that online LPG cylinder bookings increased to about 99% on an industry basis.

PNG Drive 2.0 To End On June 30, 2026

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has directed city-gas distribution entities to expedite D-PNG connections. Also, the National PNG Drive 2.0 has been extended till 30.06.2026 to sustain momentum in PNG expansion.

PNG drive is aimed at making piped gas usage simpler, safer and seamless. It is a uniform attempt of gas-distributing companies to transform and expand the usage of natural gases like PNG and CNG for a sustainable energy future. This drive was implemented on January 1, 2026.

Lastly, the government has promoted alternative options to LPG. These are PNG, electric or induction cooktops, kerosene and coals, among others.
