Gas Cylinder Rules in June 2026? LPG-PNG Connection Verification, Refill Booking Norms, KYC Updates & More
A major change could be on the way for households that use both LPG cylinders and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for cooking. As the government pushes for wider PNG adoption across cities, authorities are tightening rules around domestic cooking gas connections to prevent duplication, misuse of subsidies and unnecessary hoarding of LPG cylinders.
Gas Cylinder Rules in June 2026: What Dual LPG and PNG Users Need to Know
For many families, LPG cylinders have long been the primary cooking fuel. However, with piped gas networks expanding rapidly across urban India, regulators now want households to rely on a single cooking gas source instead of maintaining both LPG and PNG connections at the same address.

Households Using Both LPG and PNG May Face New Restrictions From June
To identify duplicate users, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and City Gas Distribution (CGD) operators are increasingly sharing and matching customer records. The objective is to find households that have an active PNG connection while continuing to use subsidised LPG cylinders.
Officials believe that allowing multiple cooking gas connections at the same residence can lead to inefficient distribution and potential misuse of subsidised LPG supplies. As a result, households with both services may be asked to choose one primary cooking fuel source.
What Could Happen to Existing LPG Connections After New Gas Cylinder Rule
In areas where PNG pipelines are already available and operational, consumers may be encouraged to shift fully to piped gas. If a household continues to maintain both LPG and PNG connections, authorities could impose restrictions on LPG refill bookings or take steps to deactivate unused domestic gas connections.
The move is part of a broader "One Household, One Cooking Gas Connection" approach that aims to ensure LPG cylinders reach households that genuinely depend on them.

Apart from connection verification, consumers may also notice tighter LPG refill booking norms.
Authorities are working to reduce stockpiling and artificial shortages by increasing the gap between cylinder refills in certain regions. The goal is to improve availability and ensure a smoother supply chain, particularly during periods of high demand.
For regular consumers who use LPG cylinders normally, there is unlikely to be any significant impact. However, households that frequently book cylinders or maintain multiple connections may face additional checks.
LPG Subsidy Update: What Eligible Beneficiaries Need to Know Before Booking a Cylinder
For now, there is no change in LPG subsidy benefits. Eligible consumers can continue to receive subsidy support on up to 12 domestic cylinders per year, while any additional cylinders will be charged at market rates.
The tightening of LPG rules comes at a time when the government is aggressively expanding PNG infrastructure across the country. While LPG remains the dominant cooking fuel with more than 33 crore consumers, policymakers see PNG as a cleaner, more convenient and long-term solution for urban households.
As more cities get connected to piped gas networks, officials expect a gradual shift away from cylinder-based cooking fuel in many urban areas.
Using Both LPG and PNG? Check Your KYC Status
If your household already has a PNG connection and also uses an LPG cylinder, it may be a good idea to check with your gas distributor about any new compliance requirements. Consumers should also ensure that their customer records, addresses and KYC details are updated to avoid disruptions in future LPG bookings.
For millions of households, the changes may not require immediate action. But as the government moves towards tighter monitoring of domestic cooking gas usage, consumers should stay informed about evolving LPG and PNG rules in their area.
