HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank has announced sweeping changes to their credit and debit card service charges that will come into effect from July 1, 2025. The revised fees will apply to ATM usage, cash deposits and withdrawals, IMPS transactions, demand drafts, and debit card services.
These changes will affect HDFC Bank customers who often use their credit cards for gaming, adding money to wallets, paying rent, and utility bills. For ICICI Bank customers, services like using ATMs, depositing or withdrawing cash, IMPS money transfers, and getting demand drafts will be affected.

HDFC Bank Credit Card Charges:
Online Gaming:
If you use your HDFC credit card for skill-based gaming apps like Dream11, MPL, or Rummy, you will no longer earn reward points on these spends. Also, if your gaming expenses go over Rs 10,000 in a month, a 1% fee will be charged on the total amount. However, this fee is capped at Rs 4,999 per month.
Wallet Loading:
When you add money to digital wallets like Paytm or Amazon Wallet using your HDFC credit card, a 1% fee will apply if your total monthly wallet loading crosses Rs 10,000. This charge is also limited to a maximum of Rs 4,999 each month.
Utility Bill Payments:
For utility bills like electricity, water, mobile, or DTH, a 1% charge will apply if your total monthly payment exceeds Rs 50,000. The fee won't go above Rs 4,999 per month. Keep in mind that insurance payments are not included under utility bills, so this charge does not apply to them.
Insurance Transactions:
For insurance transactions, the reward point structure has been revised. Infinia and Infinia Metal cardholders will now earn a maximum of 10,000 reward points per month, instead of the earlier limit of 5,000 points per day. Diners Black variants are capped at 5,000 points per month, while all other HDFC credit cards will be limited to 2,000 points per month.
Rent, Fuel, and Education Payments:
Transactions for rent, fuel, and education will still be charged at 1%, but with a new monthly cap of Rs 4,999. For fuel, if you spend more than Rs 15,000 in a month, the 1% fee applies to the entire amount.
For education, a 1% charge applies only when payments are made through third-party apps like CRED or NoBroker. If you pay directly through the institution's website, POS machine, or for international education, there will be no charge.
ICICI Bank Revises Service Charges Across ATM, IMPS, and Branch Transactions
ATM Transaction Limits and Charges:
ICICI Bank customers will get the first five financial transactions each month at ICICI ATMs free of charge; after that, a fee of Rs 23 will apply per financial transaction. Non-financial transactions at ICICI ATMs will remain free, and senior citizens will be exempt from all these fees.
For other bank ATMs, customers in metro areas will get three free financial transactions per month, while those in non-metro areas will get five. Beyond these limits, Rs 23 will be charged for financial transactions and Rs 8.50 for non-financial transactions.
International ATM withdrawals will cost Rs 125 per cash withdrawal, plus a 3.5% currency conversion fee, and Rs 25 for non-financial transactions.
IMPS Charges:
IMPS transfers up to Rs 1,000 will be charged Rs 2.50 per transaction. For amounts between Rs 1,001 and Rs 1,00,000, the fee will be Rs 5, and for transfers between Rs 1,00,001 and Rs 5,00,000, the charge will be Rs 15.
Cash Transactions at Branches and CRMs:
Customers will get three free cash deposits or withdrawals at branches or cash recycler machines (CRMs) each month. Beyond this, a fee of Rs 150 per transaction will be applied.
For deposits exceeding Rs 1 lakh in a month, a charge of Rs 150 or Rs 3.50 per Rs 1,000, whichever is higher, will be levied. Third-party cash deposits will be capped at Rs 25,000 per transaction.
Cash Withdrawals at Branches:
After three free withdrawals per month, each additional withdrawal will cost Rs 150. Withdrawals exceeding Rs 1 lakh per month will also incur extra value-based charges.
Debit Card Fees:
The annual fee for ICICI Bank debit cards will be Rs 300 for regular customers and Rs 150 for rural customers. Replacement debit cards will cost Rs 300.
