Income Tax Website Not Working Ahead of the ITR Deadline? Here’s What You Can Do

The Income Tax Return (ITR) deadline is just a day away, and a lot of people rush to file their ITRs before the September 15 deadline. Due to high user traffic, several users have raised complaints of facing issues related to the Income Tax website.

Many have raised the issue on the social media platform X (earlier known as Twitter) and have urged the Income Tax Department to extend the ITR deadline. The ITR deadline was earlier extended from July 31 to September 15. Several media reports suggest that the I-T department is unlikely to extend the ITR deadline.

Taxpayers Complain About Facing Issues With the Income Tax Website

Several users on social media raised complaints about facing issues while visiting the Income Tax website. 'Loading for more than 15 minutes still nothing done how can we file ITR in such environment in last minutes plz guide," commented a social media user Ravi shared on X.

Another user tagged the I-T department in the social media post and wrote, "Trying for long time. Not able to move ahead. Ur server slept."

" ITR site is down since morning when I am trying to do advanced tax payment. Getting below error," commented another user.

"Humble Request to extend the deadlines , systems are not even working on sunday too. I have been filling from last 3 months stills there are issues with portal and yet now i am unable to file it on time. please accept the request," urged user named Akash Khandelwal, who described himself as a CA on X.

What To Do When Income Tax Website Is Not Working?

As there is no official information related to ITR filing deadline extension, taxpayers can try these few tips and tricks, shared by the I-T department, to resolve issues related to the Income Tax website.

-Taxpayers who face issues while logging in at the Income Tax website, must try again after clearing the browser cache or using a different browser, according to Income Tax India's reply to a taxpayer's complaint on X.

-If the problem persists, taxpayers must send their details, including PAN card number and mobile number) to the Income Tax department via mail. "May we request you to share your details (along with PAN & your mobile no.) with us via email at [email protected] Our team will get in touch with you," read a post by Income Tax India on X.

The Income Tax website has fixed 15 September as the deadline to file Income Tax Return (ITR) for the assessment year 2024-25. Failure to file ITR before the deadline will lead to penalty on taxpayers.
