The new rule of LPG-PNG connection makes it mandatory to terminate your Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas connection within 30 days. The rule was announced in late May 2026, offering relief to Indian households who migrate to non-PNG areas. This rule differs from the 25-day and 45-day LPG lock-in refill rules. Here, once you acquire a PNG connection, it becomes mandatory to end your LPG connection. Let's understand deeper and what measures can you take to surrender your LPG connections?
LPG-PNG Connection Rule Of 30-Days!

The government notified the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, on May 25th. The amendment aims to provide additional relaxation and convenience to domestic LPG consumers who subsequently obtain piped natural gas (PNG) connections.
This new provision requires Indian households to terminate their Indane Gas, HP Gas and BharatGas connections within 30 days of obtaining PNG connection.
So if for example, if you get PNG connection fixed in your home on June 6, 2026, you will have to terminate your Indane, BharatGas or HP Gas LPG connections by July 6th.
However, a big relief was also part of the new rule. Apart from giving up your connection, you have the opportunity to avail a transfer voucher for the future if you move back to a non-PNG area.
If you relocate from one PNG-based area to another, you cannot use this LPG transfer voucher. The rule specifically mentions the transfer voucher to return back to LPG connections is when you move to non-PNG areas.
Hence, this is called the 30-day rule!
Gas Cylinder Booking Rules Of 25-Days & 45-Days:
If you obtain a PNG connection, you cannot apply for an LPG refill and must surrender the LPG connection in 30 days. But if you do not have a PNG connection, your LPG refill eligibility will depend upon the location of your residential address.
The government has revised their lock-in period for refilling LPG cylinders to 25 days for customers in urban areas and to 45 days for customers in rural areas. Earlier, the gap to buy an LPG refill was just 21 days.
