Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, HP Gas LPG Cylinder Connections To Be Cut By June 30, 2026? Know New LPG-PNG Rules
The government has tightened the rules for customers holding dual connections. The aim is the 'One Household, One Gas Connection' rule across the country and a major shift towards the expansion of PNG connections. The current West Asian conflict has led to an LPG shortage crunch, although the Oil Ministry assured there are no dry-outs in LPG distribution. However, the global energy crisis has hit hard and switching to alternatives to LPG cylinders has become pivotal. LPG allocation remains a top priority of the government, but they have also announced various protocols for those who have LPG-PNG.
Dual LPG-PNG Connection Prohibited

Under the new LPG-PNG rules, if you have switched to PNG connections, you must surrender your LPG connections. If PNG infrastructure is available in your locality, you must apply for a PNG connection and then eventually terminate your LPG connection.
If you have both LPG and PNG connections, you are required to give up your Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas connections. Hence, the 'No Dual Connection' policy is being practiced.
That said, holding both LPG and PNG together is a prohibited activity.
End Your LPG Connections In 30 Days After Switching To PNG Connection
Just recently, on May 25th, the government revised its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, on 25th May, 2026. The amendment aims to provide additional relaxation and convenience to domestic LPG consumers who subsequently obtain Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections.
Under the amended rules, LPG consumers who have obtained PNG connections are required to terminate their LPG connections within 30 days from the date of obtaining PNG.
LPG Transfer Voucher
But the government has also announced a big relief effort. After terminating your LPG connection, you can still obtain a transfer voucher for future restoration of LPG connection if you move to a non-PNG area.
This amendment provides significant relief and flexibility to consumers who may subsequently shift to areas where PNG infrastructure may not be feasible. Also, the Oil Ministry believes that the provision is particularly beneficial for transferable employees, migrant households, tenants, students, and/or families shifting to non-PNG areas.
Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Connections To Be Cut By June 30?
In March 2026, as per the circular, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued new rules for gas cylinder connections. One of them included that any person who has a piped natural gas (PNG) connection and also a domestic LPG connection is prohibited from applying for new LPG connections or banned from LPG refills from any government-backed oil marketing companies or through any distributors.
Simply put, if you have a PNG connection, you cannot apply for new LPG or apply for a refill of LPG.
The city-gas distributing companies have been prioritizing PNG connections for commercial establishments such as hotels, restaurants and canteens across all their GAs to address concerns regarding the availability of commercial LPG.
These companies are IGL, MGL, GAIL Gas and BPCL. Further, the ministry has asked States/UTs and Central Ministries to expedite approvals required for expansion of CGD networks.
While banning PNG customers from applying for or refilling LPGs, the government also issued a new order titled Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution (Through Laying, Building, Operation and Expansion of Pipelines and Other Facilities) Order, 2026, on March 24, 2026.
Under the new order, the government fixed a 3-month timeline for LPG customers to switch to PNG connections if PNG infrastructure is available in their locality or area.
The order said LPG supply shall cease if a household does not switch to PNG despite the availability. Any non-compliance could lead to suspension of LPG. This order was announced in March and the timeline to switch to PNG completely was given as 90 days, which ends in June. However, the government has not announced any specific deadline to remove LPG connections.
In the month of March, Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal urged citizens to start applying for PNG connections in areas where the service is available and avoid the risk of losing their LPG connection. He said, "I want people who have not yet availed the pipeline gas, despite the availability of the service in the area, to start applying before June 30. How to provide connections is a matter concerned with the service provider. The company will ensure that."
That being said, the chances of your LPG connection stopping from July 1st are high.
