Indane, HP, Bharat Gas Connections To Be Cut After August 23? Will LPG E-KYC Deadline Get Extended Again?

The e-KYC of Indane Gas, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas LPG cylinders has taken the limelight. Millions of customers are rushing to LPG distributors or online portals to complete their LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication. The e-KYC deadline was extended to August 23. Hence, the last chance is ending on Sunday. If customers missed the deadline, Indian households could face a host of impacts as far as getting their connections temporarily suspended. So if you do not wish to face impacts on your LPG subsidy benefits, LPG purchases, booking, refilling, and connections, then here's why you must not miss the August 23rd deadline.

What Is The Last Date For LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC?

The current last date for e-KYC is August 23, 2026, which falls on Sunday. Earlier, the date was August 16 but due to customers' convenience, the deadline was extended.

Will August 23 E-KYC Deadline Get Extended?

Before the August 16 deadline, many media reports had pointed out that lakhs of customers in several states have not completed their e-KYC.

In early August, it was reported by Pune Mirror that approximately 4.80 lakh customers had not completed their e-KYC of around 6 lakh domestic LPG customers in the Pune district. The report revealed that over 1.25 lakh customers completed registeration after they faced temporary suspensions.

Not just that, many state reports, such as Punjab state media agency, revealed that 3.5 lakh customers have yet to complete e-KYC in Amritsar alone, and another report said 2 lakh e-KYC are pending in Ghaziabad.

And a report of Bhaskar English a week ago reported that 38 lakh consumers in Rajasthan are yet to complete their e-KYC.

While there is no latest data after the deadline was extended in regard to pending e-KYC. But these are millions of customers who were yet to complete their e-KYC before August 16. One of the reasons why the August 16 deadline was extended is because there was a last-minute rush and panic for completing e-KYC at LPG distributors and agencies. Also, many customers complained about facing glitches and technical issues due to the rush on online portals as well.

So it will be keenly watched if the August 23 deadline will be extended on Sunday. But for now, there is no official statement or notification for extending the deadline.

Will Your LPG Subsidy Get Suspended If the E-KYC Deadline Is Missed?

The August 23 deadline is technically not crucial for beneficiaries covered under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This is because PMUY beneficiaries have to do their e-KYC once every financial year to ensure receiving LPG benefits via direct benefit transfer (DBT).

PMUY beneficiaries generally receive two major benefits under the scheme, which has also seen significant modification since the West Asia conflict. Firstly, eligible PMUY customers get a Rs 300 subsidy on their LPG refills, while they receive 4 LPG refills, which was changed from the earlier 9 refills this year.

So the August 23 deadline is basically for non-PMUY customers. As per the March 2026 rule, the oil ministry clarified that e-KYC is compulsory to those non-PMUY customers who have not done it before. It's a one-time requirement, so if you have already done your e-KYC, you need to worry about the August 23 deadline. If you are still pending doing your e-KYC, then you might not want to miss Sunday.

Will Your Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Connection Get Suspended?

This is one of the impact that many LPG customers may reportedly face. As per reports, the BPCL notice indicates that if you missed the e-KYC deadline in August, your LPG cylinder connection will be temporarily suspended until the e-KYC is completed. But your connection will not be cancelled.

Hence, to avoid temporary suspension, you must complete your e-KYC before the deadline.

Will Your Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Cylinders Prices Rise If August 23 Deadline Missed?

Yes! This is widely reported. The Indian Oil message earlier said if customers failed to complete their e-KYC they would be ineligible for cylinders at domestic rates till e-KYC is completed. Many reports said, LPG customers may have to buy their domestic LPG cylinders at commercial rates if they have not completed their e-KYC.

To put in perspective, the current market price for domestic Indane Gas LPG cylinders in 14.2 Kg is at Rs 942 in Delhi, at Rs 968 in Kolkata, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and Rs 957.50 per cylinder in Chennai.

However, the commercial rates for LPG cylinders in August is at Rs 2,738 in Delhi, at Rs 2,691.50 in Mumbai, at RS 2,872.50 in Kolkata and at RS 2,906 in Chennai.

So if you become ineligible for domestic rates on LPGs due to missing e-KYC and if commercial rates are applied, then you are paying Rs 1,796 extra on domestic LPG in Delhi (Rs 2,738 - Rs 942). The same impact could be seen across states.

It needs to be noted that these are based on media reports and speculations. It is advisable to contact your LPG distributor or oil companies directly for the latest updates and impacts.
