Indian Oil New Advisory: Indane Gas LPG Connections

Indian Oil who is the producer of Indane Gas LPG cylinders in the country, retweeted Oil Ministry's statement of how PNG is the cleaner, safer and greener option as a cooking fuel.

As per the ministry data, a whopping 1,00,000 families across the country have given up their LPG connections and have opted for PNG connections!

Why You Have To Give Up Your Indane Gas, BharatGas & HP Gas Connections?

Under the new LPG-PNG rules, if you have switched to PNG connections, you must surrender your LPG connections. If PNG infrastructure is available in your locality, you must apply for a PNG connection and then eventually terminate your LPG connection.

If you have both LPG and PNG connections, you are required to give up your Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas connections. Hence, the 'No Dual Connection' policy is being practiced.

That said, holding both LPG and PNG together is a prohibited activity.

Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Connections To Be Removed By June 30?

In March 2026, as per the circular, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued new rules for gas cylinder connections. One of them included that any person who has a piped natural gas (PNG) connection and also a domestic LPG connection is prohibited from applying for new LPG connections or banned from LPG refills from any government-backed oil marketing companies or through any distributors.

Simply put, if you have a PNG connection, you cannot apply for new LPG or apply for a refill of LPG.

While banning PNG customers from applying for or refilling LPGs, the government also issued a new order titled Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution (Through Laying, Building, Operation and Expansion of Pipelines and Other Facilities) Order, 2026, on March 24, 2026.

Under the new order, the government fixed a 3-month timeline for LPG customers to switch to PNG connections if PNG infrastructure is available in their locality or area.

The order said LPG supply shall cease if a household does not switch to PNG despite the availability. Any non-compliance could lead to suspension of LPG. This order was announced in March and the timeline to switch to PNG completely was given as 90 days, which ends in June. However, the government has not announced any specific deadline to remove LPG connections.

Also, earlier in March, Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal urged citizens to start applying for PNG connections in areas where the service is available and avoid the risk of losing their LPG connection. He said, "I want people who have not yet availed the pipeline gas, despite the availability of the service in the area, to start applying before June 30. How to provide connections is a matter concerned with the service provider. The company will ensure that."

Latest data of ministry showed that cince March 2026, about 10.02 Lakh PNG connections have been gasified and infrastructure has been created for additional 3.22 Lakh connections, taking the total to 13.24 lakh connections. Further, about 9.94 Lakh customers have been registered for new connections.

Latest Advisory For LPG-PNG:

"CGD entities have been advised to prioritize PNG connections for commercial establishments such as hotels, restaurants and canteens across all their GAs, to address concerns regarding the availability of commercial LPG," the Oil Ministry said in an update on June 18th.

Among many advisories, the government continued to highlight the following:

- Beware of rumours and rely on official sources for correct information.

- Citizens are requested to use alternate fuels like PNG, induction/electric cooktops, etc.

- Bulk and industrial consumers are requested to procure diesel from authorized procurement channels.

- In the current situation, all citizens are requested to make necessary efforts to conserve energy in their daily usage.

Also, the Government has already implemented several rationalisation measures on both the supply and demand side, including enhancing refinery production, increasing the booking interval from 21 to 25 days in urban areas and up to 45 days in rural areas, and prioritising sectors for supply.
