Among the early gainers from the Nifty was Infosys which jumped more than 1.41 per cent, following reports that the company has got more flexible on its pricing strategy.

Indusind Bank which made an entry into the Nifty from today at the expense of Siemens was up 0.69 per cent in early trade, while the other new entrant into the Nifty NMDC was up 0.44 per cent.

Engineering and Construction major Larsen and Toubro was trading firm after reports that the company has completed the acquisition of its group firm, Audco India Ltd.

Polaris Financial Technology jumped in excess of 2 per cent after reports that the Chennai-based company has approached engineering and construction group L&T and India's third-largest technology services exporter Wipro to gauge their interest in acquiring its services business.

Among the top Nifty losers in trade were Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, Power Grid Corporation, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Consultancy Services and ITC.

PSU Banking stocks which came in for some severe selling pressure last week found buying support at lower levels. Among the gainers from the space were Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank and Indian Overseas Bank.

Almost all of the top real estate stocks were trading in the green today with prominent gainers from the space including DLF, Anant Raj Industries, HDIL, Godrej Properties, Unitech and Oberoi Realty.

Metal stocks were the big underperformers in trade today with prominent losers from the space including Sterlite Industries which dropped 3.84 per cent, while other losers included Sesa Goa, JSW Steel and Tata Steel.

Meanwhile, Asian markets were trading steady to negative in early trade today.
