Sensex, Nifty End Higher; Auto Stocks Lead

The Sensex and the Nifty gained ground in trade on buying interest in select auto and tech stocks.

The Sensex ended the day higher by 211 points, while the Nifty rallied 68 points in trade. Leading the set of gainers in trade were stocks like Hero Motor Corp, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki.

On the other hand stocks that lost ground in trade were Hero Motor Corp, Tata Motors and Reliance Industries. But, the star in trade was Kotak Mahindra Bank which rallied over 4 per cent on the back of strong set of numbers for quarter ended September 2014.

Other private sector banking stocks ended the day almost muted with ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank ending flat. PSU banking stocks saw some selling pressure after Punjab National Bank reported numbers that lagged estimates on Tuesday.

ONGC which had rallied heavily on Tuesday on the back of diesel deregulation ended the day lower. Reliance, however, gained ground and ended the day with gains.

Mid cap stocks also had a good session in trade with Jubilant food gaining a huge 5 per cent. Tata Capital and Petronet LNG were the other gainers from the space.

Meanwhile, markets in Europe were trading marginally lower while most of Asia ended the day with gains.
