What is preferential issue?
A preferential issue of shares mean allotting shares to only specific group of people or companies, venture capitalists who may or may not be existing shareholders. The shares are not issued through public offer or the preferential shareholders do not have rights issue either. Preferential issue is also another way to raise funds for the company.
What is warrants issue?
Warrant are issued by the companies to benefit from the advantage of reduced cost of financing. Warrants give investors a right to buy shares of the company at a per-specified date in the future, at per-specified price. It is form of contract that grants a right but not an obligation to execute the contract in the future. At the same time, warrants assure additional capital if the stock does well.
What is a bonus share?
A bonus share issue refers to getting free shares from the company to existing investors / shareholders. Company freely distributes shares to its current shareholders as fully paid shares to capitalise a part of the company's retained earnings for conversion of its share premium account, or distribution of treasury shares. An issue of bonus shares is referred to as a bonus share issue.
What is a stock-split?
A stock split is when a company issues more shares to its existing shareholders by reducing the face value of each share at a specified ratio (called stock-split ratio). The number of shares increase but the market cap remains the same, only the value per share chages, it reduces further. A face value is the nominal value per stock of equity share issued by the company.
The most common split ratios are 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 (sometimes denoted as 2:1 or 3:1). This means for every share held before the split, each stockholder will have two or three shares, respectively, after the split. The main reason for a company to announce stock split is to intentionally lower the price of a single share, to make the company's stock at a more affordable price without losing value.
