Kerala Monsoon Bumper Lottery BR-110 Tax Rules
The winning amount of Kerala Lotteries falls under 'income from other sources' as per the income tax rules. Accordingly, a 30% tax rate will be deducted from prizes. However, there is a limitation on the prize money that is liable to face tax rate.
Here is the break-up of tax rules for Kerala Lotteries:
- 30% tax rate is implied on the winning amount, as per Section 115BB.
- 4% cess is also applicable on lottery prizes.
- In total, the overall tax rate would come around 31.2% in case the winning amount is above Rs 10 lakh.
Hence, the Kerala lottery amount will be derived after subtracting 31.2% as tax.
- Apart from this, the winning lotteries will also face 10% agents commission.
Let's calculate:
If we imply 30% tax rate on first prize of Rs 1 crore excluding cess, and 10% agents commission, here's how much the winner will receive:
Rs 12,00,00,000 - 30% = Rs 8,40,00,000
This means Rs 3.6 crore comes as a tax amount.
Rs 8,40,00,000 - 10% agents commission = Rs 7,56,00,000 final winning amount.
This means Rs 84 lakh went to agents.
However, the final amount could be lower if TDS and cess is deducted as well.
