To avoid misuse of the unique biometric ID, UIDAI has now come up with limits on the number of times a specific detail on the card can be changed. For instance, now on the date of birth on the card can be changed only once. In respect of the name on the Aadhaar card, the request for modification of name on the aadhaar card will only be entertained only twice.

In respect of the date on the Aadhaar, the change shall be allowed for a difference of only 2 and 3 years from the birth year that was provided at the time of enrolment. And the person who went to provide the date of birth proof will also be verified in the record of UIDAI. And if no birth proof related document was furnished at the time of aadhaar enrolment then the date of birth with the authorities will be considered by the UIDAI as approximate or declared.

Furthermore, with the proof of evidence, the change in birth date can be made regardless of the limit or range of change allowed. And if in the system it is already recorded as verified, such a change request shall not be entertained by the UIDAI authorities.

In respect of the gender, the updation can be made only once and in an exceptional case where the change is still required to be made, the aadhaar card holder would need to visit the regional office of the UIDAI. And herein they would need to explain why the change is required to be beyond the permissible limit and send over the letter to the UIDAI regional office. And on verification whether or not the request placed for updation of details on aadhaar are genuine, the request can be further sent to tech centre of the UIDAI for complying and processing the request made for updation of details on card.
