LPG Gas Cylinder Rules: OMCs New Advisory On PNG; Indane, HP, Bharat Gas LPG Connection To Be Cut In June?
The oil marketing companies like HPCL and BPCL are encouraging customers to register or switch to PNG with exciting offers. This comes after the government pushed for the 'No Dual Connection' or 'One Household, One Gas Connection' policy to curb LPG cylinder shortages and ensure only genuine customers receive it.
The government has firmly banned PNG customers from applying for new LPG, and it has asked customers with dual connections to surrender their LPG connection. Furthermore, the government has warned that if the customers with PNG infrastructure do not switch to PNG in three months' time, their LPG connection could be removed. The deadline is yet to be known but speculations are of June 2026-end.

Amidst this, OMCs have issued a new advisory for PNG registration. The latest is HPCL followed by BPCL. Meanwhile, Indian Oil assured customers of a seamless supply of LPG in the nation.
HPCL New Advisory: HP Gas
HPCL is the distributor of HP Gas Cylinders. However, through its X, HPCL said, "Get uninterrupted gas supply without any advance payment with HP PNG connection, more convenience, and an environmentally responsible option."
As per HPCL, PNG is more affordable, convenient and environmentally safe in comparison to LPG cylinders.
HPCL directs customers to visit the HP PNG registration link. Also, download the HPCL e-Gas Suite app and benefit from domestic cooking gas services.
BPCL New Advisory: Bharat Gas
BPCL is the distributor of Bharat Gas LPG cylinders. In its latest update, BPCL stated that they have continued to maintain strong LPG deliveries across India, ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability for households, businesses, and small vendors nationwide.
It added, "These sustained dispatches reflect a robust supply chain, continuous replenishment, and round-the-clock operations across regions. Availability remains steady, and customers are advised to continue normal consumption patterns without panic buying."
However, last week, BPCL annonced zero application fees and zero upfront payment offer for switching to PNG. All the customers have to do is pay Re 1 in their bill. Hoever, the offer was limited and ended on May 22.
Notably, a Hindustan Times report also cited that oficials said the ministry held a review meeting with heads of OMCs and chief secretaries of states and Union territories last week, to assess the status of PNG rollout as part of the Centre's push to reduce dependence on imported LPG.
Gas Cylinder Booking Rules:
As a customer, you should be aware of these five rules before booking or refilling your LPG cylinders.
1. LPG Gas Cylinders Lock-In Period
To curb the supply crunch, the government has revised their lock-in period for refilling LPG cylinders to 25-days for customers in urban areas and to 45-days for customers in rural areas. Earlier, the gap to buy LPG refill was just 21-days.
2. OTP-Based LPG Cylinders Delivery
Both oil ministry and OMCs have emphasized that LPG delivery will not be possible if the customer does not share one-time password (OTP) that will be sent to the registered mobile number.
3. Update Your Mobile Number For LPG Cylinders Booking
To get seamless delivery of LPG, ensure that your mobile number is updated or else you may face difficulty.
4. LPG Biometric Aadhaar Authentication For LPG Connection:
It has become mandatory for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries to do an Aadhaar-based authentication. As per the latest direction, the ministry clarified that the requirement of eKYC applies to those LPG consumers who have not done eKYC so far. If you are a non-PMUY customer and have done it before, then you are not required to do the LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication.
5. Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, HP Gas Connections To Be Cut By June 30?
In March 2026, the government gave an ultimatum of three months to switch to PNG if you already have the facilities. Additionally, the government asked PNG customers to surrender their LPGs and to not apply for a new LPG connection or refill.
The new rule has asked households with PNG infrastructure to switch their cooking gas to PNG within 90 days since the date of the notice, which was on March 24, 2026. Any non-compliance could lead to suspension of LPG supply.
Going by the notice date of March 24, 2026, the 90-day deadline ends on June 24, 2026. However, the government has not confirmed or given any deadline date as of now. This also increases the probability of extension in the switch to PNG facility.
But the majority of reports have said that the deadline could be June 30, 2026, and your LPG connection could be inactive from July 1, 2026, onward.
6. No Dual Connection
The government is promoting 'One Household, One Gas Connection' or 'No Dual Gas Connection' rule. The government's main goal is to reduce dependency upon LPG, curb black marketing and ensure that customers who genuinely need LPG receive priority over households who have other options for cooking gas. The other option is piped natural gas (PNG).
According to reports, citizens are already receiving messages to surrender their LPG connection if they have PNG. The government also mandated the removal of all LPG connections for societies or households that have PNG infrastructure.
7. Online Booking, Alternate Options To LPG
The government has encouraged Indian households to book their LPG digitally rather than standing in long queues. Both the government and oil marketing companies have assured that there are no dry-outs.
The government has promoted alternative options to LPG. These are PNG, electric or induction cooktops, kerosene and coals, among others.
