LPG Prices Update: The latest inflation data cooled sharply to 3.16%, lowest since July 2019. However, despite the decline in the global crude oil prices in April 2025 month, the fuel and light inflation shoot up to 2.92% from 1.42% in March. As per expert this reflects the higher domestic LPG and electricity tariffs rather then higher fuel costs.
Indian oil marketing companies (OMCs) have been reducing the LPG prices of 19KG cylinder for second consecutive month, while, the prices of 14.2 kg cylinders were increased in April 2025 after being paused for many months since August 2024.

India's retail inflation dropped sharply to 3.16% in April 2025, owing to a sharp cooling in food inflation. This takes the consumer price index (CPI) lower than RBI's 4% target for the second consecutive month. A steep drop was witnessed in prices of vegetables, pulses and products, meat and fish, personal care and effects, and cereals & products.
"The food inflation has declined by a stellar 91 basis points in comparison to March 2025, which was already down over 100 basis points lower than the following month. Also, It is for the 3rd consecutive month that the CPI inflation has stayed below the 4% mark, reflecting a commendable trajectory that underlines the robust domestic economic growth," said Sanjay Kumar, MD & CEO, Rassense Pvt Ltd.
However, the inflation rate of fuel and light stood at 2.92% in April 2025, which was sharply above 1.42% of the previous month.
According to the expert, however, some upward pressures remain in core categories such as healthcare (4.25%), education (4.13%), and notably, fuel and light inflation, which rose to 2.92% from 1.42% in March.
He added, "This increase, despite declining global crude oil prices, reflects higher domestic LPG and electricity tariffs rather than pump fuel costs. As global commodity prices remain benign and the rupee stable, the current environment presents a valuable opportunity to stimulate demand and ease borrowing costs."
LPG Prices of 14.2kG Cylinders:
LPG prices were hiked by Rs 50 from April 8, 2025. Accordingly, at Indian Oil, 14.2KG LPG price has surged to Rs 853 in Delhi, to Rs 879 in Kolkata, to Rs 852.50 in Mumbai, and Rs 868.50 in Chennai. These prices are kept unchanged in May month as well.
LPG Prices Of 19Kg Cylinders:
In May 2025, the prices of 19 kg cylinders were trimmed by Rs 14.5 to Rs 17 per cylinder across metro cities. A 19kg cylinder is now available at Rs 1,747.50 in Delhi, Rs 1,851.50 in Kolkata, Rs 1,699 in Mumbai and Rs 1,906 per cylinder in Chennai.
19Kg LPG prices are down for a second consecutive month. From April to May 2025, LPG price is cut by Rs 55.5 in Delhi, by Rs 61.5 in Kolkata, by Rs 56.5 in Mumbai and by Rs 59 in Chennai.
In March month, the prices were at Rs 1,803 in Delhi, at Rs 1,913 in Kolkata, at Rs 1,755.50 in Mumbai and at Rs 1,965 in Chennai.
Going ahead, ICRA expects average crude prices for FY2026 to remain in the $60-70/bbl range. At these levels, the negative impact on PBT of upstream companies is estimated at Rs. 250 billion for FY2026. However, there would be savings of Rs. 1.8 trillion for crude imports and Rs. 60 billion for LNG imports. For OMCs, the marketing margins on auto-fuels will remain healthy, while LPG under-recoveries are likely to reduce.
Marketing margins on auto-fuels for oil marketing companies (OMCs) would remain above long term average of Rs. 2.5-4/litre and LPG under recoveries are expected to reduce with decline in crude prices and compensation by the Government, which would support profitability of downstream companies, despite the increase in excise duty on auto fuels by the Government of India (GoI) w.e.f. April 8, 2025. However, there would be inventory losses for refiners owing to the sharp decline in crude prices. Moreover, further hikes in excise duty can not be ruled out, according to ICRA.
Hence, it will be keenly watched if Indian OMCs reduce the prices of LPG in June month.
