LPG Subsidy From October 1: Aadhaar Biometric Verification Mandatory; Check Eligibility, Deadline & Benefits

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said that domestic LPG consumers will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication, or BAA, to keep receiving subsidised cylinder refills from October 1st.

The rule links each LPG connection to a verified person. The ministry says this will help prevent subsidised cylinders from being diverted for commercial use, remove duplicate or ineligible connections, and ensure subsidies reach the right people.

Consumers were first asked to complete BAA by June 30 2026 but the government extended the deadline seven times since then, moving it to July 31, August 7, August 15, August 23, August 31, September 7 and finally September 14, before settling on October 1 as the date the new requirement takes effect.

As of September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9% of the total, had already completed authentication and don't need to do anything further.

Who needs To Complete The LPG e-KYC

Anyone who hasn't completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication yet needs to do so before booking their next subsidised refill.
The process is free and can be completed from home on a mobile phone using biometric verification, fingerprint, iris or face scan through the Aadhaar FaceRD app. OTP-only verification does not satisfy the requirement.

How to complete The LPG e-KYC

Indane customers can download the IndianOil ONE app, register with your linked mobile number, go to the LPG/e-KYC section and follow the Aadhaar authentication prompts, including face verification.

Bharatgas customers can use the HelloBPCL app, register your details, select the e-KYC option, complete OTP verification and then follow the Aadhaar authentication steps.

HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY app for the same process.

Consumers can also complete authentication through the official e-KYC portal (pmuy.gov.in/e-kyc.html), at their distributor's counter, or during cylinder delivery.

If fingerprint authentication fails, face authentication or assisted capture at the distributor is available as a fallback.

What happens if you don't complete it

Consumers who are not willing to or are unable to complete BAA will still be able to buy LPG, just without the subsidy. They need to register this preference through their oil marketing company's digital channels web portal, app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS and will then be supplied 5kg or 10kg cylinders at market price.
