No Internet? No Problem! PhonePe’s New UPI Feature Lets You Make Payments On Feature Phones

The most important facility to make online transactions will no longer require internet with PhonePe's UPI 123Pay. The new feature would let people make UPI payments with their feature phones across India.

The recently launched feature would eliminate the requirement of internet for UPI payments for feature phones. With this, PhonePe becomes the first major third-party application provider (TPAP) to extend UPI payments to India's 200 million+ feature phone users.

The offline UPI payment service will come pre-bundled on Nokia, HMD, Lava International and Itel Mobile-Transsion Holdings devices. Other handset manufacturers are also set to partner with PhonePe to bring the feature.

What is PhonePe UPI 123Pay

The feature utilises a robust SMS-based architecture, ensuring transactions go through even in regions that have limited 2G connectivity. The platform will offer seamless peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers via mobile numbers or UPI IDs.

Beyond payments, feature phone users can manage their accounts, check account balances, and view transaction histories. Upcoming updates will introduce advanced capabilities previously unavailable on feature phones, including bill payments, recharges, and Aadhaar-based onboarding onto UPI.

How To Register For PhonePe 123 UPI?

-Open the pre-installed PhonePe application on your feature phone.
-Read all the terms and conditions and accept them to complete the automated device registration.
-Choose the bank from the options list.
-Now enter the last 6 digits of your debit card and its expiry date.
-Set your UPI PIN. Your UPI ID is now active, and you can begin making payments immediately using PhonePe UPI 123Pay.

How To Use PhonePe 123 UPI?

-Make sure that you have completed the registration process.
-Now open the PhonePe application on your feature phone. Explore the desired option for online payment, whether it is Scan & Pay, Contacts, or Pay to UPI.
-Enter the mobile number or UPI ID if you select Pay to Mobile Number or Pay to UPI ID.
-Valide the details and then enter the amount. Proceed after entering the UPI PIN.
-Your payment is complete and you can check the successful transaction by checking your bank account balance status.
