Permanent Account Number or PAN as it is popularly known is mandatory for most of the financial transactions and it very important for each and every person to hold it.

PAN is necessary while filing tax, or doing any financial transaction like opening a trading account or buying real estate, etc.

If you have not applied for PAN card, it is easy to apply for it online.

Note that this form is only for the applicant who has never applied, which means you cannot apply for a duplicate here.

The charges for applying for a PAN online are the same i.e. Rs 94

If you are opting for cheque or a demand draft payment mechanism keep them ready before applying online as you have to mention you DD number in the form.

How to apply online

• Visit NSDL or UTITSL
• Select Individual Category
• ill in all compulsory info (Instructions)
• Fill range code, area code ( Click for details)
• Submit online application edit if necessary
• On confirmation, an acknowledgment will be displayed. Save and print this acknowledgment.

After submission

• Paste your color photograph
• Sign the acknowledgment

Payment

• Payment can be made either by
• Demand Draft
• Cheque
• Credit Card / Debit Card
• Net Banking

Applicants making credit card/debit card payment will be charged an additional surcharge of Rs 5 by the bank providing payment gateway facility

Applicants making payment through Net Banking facility will be charged an additional surcharge of Rs 4 + service tax for payment gateway facility

On successful credit card/debit card/net banking payment acknowledgement will be displayed. Applicant shall save and print the acknowledgement and send to NSDL.

The acknowledgement duly signed, affixed with photograph alongwith Demand Draft, if any, and proof of identity & proof of address Individuals, HUFs, Body of Individuals.

Points to Note

Highlight the envelope with 'APPLICATION FOR PAN - Acknowledgement Number' (e.g.'APPLICATION FOR PAN - 881010100000097')

Your acknowledgement, demand draft, if any, and proofs, should reach NSDL within 15 days from the date of online application.

Applications received with demand draft or cheque as mode of payment shall be processed only on receipt of relevant proofs and realization of payment.
