9 Financial Schemes Launched Under Narendra Modi Government


Here are some major policy initiatives, programmes announced this year under the Narendra Modi government.

Some polices were announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during Budget 2015.

1) Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (Mudra Bank)

MUDRA Bank atands for Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency (Mudra) Bank. The primary product of MUDRA will be refinancing for lending to micro businesses/units under the aegis of the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana.

The initial products and schemes under this umbrella have already been created and the interventions have been named as Shishu, which will cover loans upto Rs 50,000; Kishor which covers loans above Rs 50,000 and upto Rs 5 lakh, and Tarun will cover loans above Rs. 5 lakh and upto Rs. 10 lakh

Atal Pension Yojana

The Atal Pension Yojana was announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Union Budget 2015-16.

The objective of the scheme is to provide a defined pension. What this means is that if you wish to get Rs 2000 per month as pension after 15 years, then your contribution would be determined accordingly. What makes the scheme interesting is that the government will also contribute 50 per cent of the beneficiaries' premium. Also, the accounts have to be opened before Dec 31, 2015 for you to qualify the contribution from the government.

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana

Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley announced the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana for all Indians especially the poor and the under-privileged. This scheme provides an accident insurance, particularly death due to accident.

Individuals looking to join the scheme need to give a simple form to the bank for people having bank account with Aadhaar number linked to it. Again, it's so important to have an Aadhaar Account


Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana

Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley announced the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. This will provide life insurance cover

The premium payment to be made each year is Rs 330. It will be auto-debited in one instalment. The scheme will be offered by Life Insurance Corporation and all other life insurers who are willing to join the scheme and tie-up with banks for this purpose. This scheme will cover Rs 2 Lakh in case of death for any reason.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the "Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana" a part of the "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign. Focus on gender equality and opportunities for the girl child are the main themes of the Yojana.

The schemes also get tax benefit under Sec 80C of the Income Tax Act.

DigiLocker Scheme

DigilLocker is a storage space where you can hold all your electronic documents, which will be linked to you aadhaar card number. This is a facility initiated by Narendra Modi government under its Digital India programme. This facility will be launched on July 1, 2015, by Narendra Modi.

Gold Monetisation Scheme

The scheme was announced in Budget 2015-16 with the aim of mobilizing the gold lying idle with households and trusts and deploying it for productive use. The scheme will benefit the manufacturers of gold jewellery who are largely small and medium scale enterprises, by making gold available to them.

Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme

The scheme was announced in Budget 2015-16 with the view to provide a new financial instrument of investment to public at large and for reducing the demand for physical gold. The scheme was launched by the Prime Minister of India on 5th November, 2015. In the long-run, this scheme will help in reducing the country's demand for import of gold, to a large extent.

Indian Gold Coin

The scheme was announced in Budget 2015-16 with the view to promote indigenously minted national gold coins.
