Post Office Bonus 2026: What Has the Government Announced?
The Department of Posts has sanctioned a Productivity Linked Bonus equivalent to 60 days for eligible employees for the 2025-26 accounting year.
The bonus is calculated according to the applicable rules and the employee's eligible emoluments. The government has prescribed a monthly emoluments ceiling of Rs 7,000 for the calculation, which limits the maximum payout for eligible regular employees and GDS who meet the relevant conditions.
Who Is Eligible for the 60-Day Post Office Bonus?
The Department of Posts order covers three broad categories of workers, with different bonus provisions applicable to each group.
1. Regular Postal Employees
Eligible regular employees include Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C employees and non-gazetted Group B staff covered by the order. These employees are eligible for the Productivity Linked Bonus, subject to the applicable conditions.
2. Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS)
Eligible Gramin Dak Sevaks are covered under the ex-gratia bonus provision. Their bonus calculation is based on the applicable Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) and Dearness Allowance (DA), subject to the prescribed ceiling and eligibility conditions.
3. Casual Labourers
Full-time casual labourers and casual labourers granted temporary status are covered under the applicable ad-hoc bonus provisions, subject to the conditions specified in the order.
Post Office Bonus 2026: How Much Will Employees Get?
The bonus is equivalent to 60 days of eligible emoluments. For regular employees, the prescribed formula is:
Bonus = Average monthly emoluments × Number of bonus days /30.4
For the 2025-26 bonus, the monthly emoluments ceiling is Rs 7,000. Using this ceiling and 60 bonus days, the calculation is:
Monthly emoluments considered: Rs 7,000
Number of bonus days: 60
Average days in a month: 30.4
Maximum calculated bonus: Rs 7,000 × 60 ÷ 30.4
Maximum bonus: Approximately Rs 13,816
This is the maximum calculated amount under the prescribed ceiling. Employees whose eligible average emoluments are lower may receive a smaller amount.
