Received Message To Apply For IT Refund Formally? Beware It's Fake

In a tweet, the country's leading state-run lender SBI said, "Received any message from the Income Tax Department, requesting you to put in a formal request for your refund? These messages are from fraudsters at play! Ensure you ignore and report the messages immediately." So, if you also fall in a similar situation and receive any such message from the dept. of tax that asks you to apply for getting your due income tax refund formally. Kindly ignore the message and report it immediately.

The bank has asked customers not to share confidential information with anyone and also avoid clicking on suspicious links. And on receipt of any such messages, recipient should immediately report it to the police and the cyber cell.

SBI further added that in case you happen to click on the links sent over to you by hackers, you will be redirected to another site, wherein you may be asked of your personal information such as Id, password etc. With such information at hand, hackers will then be able to access your account and rob you off your bank balance.

In the previous instance, SBI warned customers against responding to text messages that said their accounts have been suspended and they need to click on the given link for getting their account reactivated. "When you receive any message similar to this (as shown in the image above), not click on such URLs; Never share your personal and/or account details on any suspicious links. Check your account status with your branch only. Report such messages immediately to the local police authorities. Be vigilant, be safe," SBI had tweeted.
