Rs. 5 Lakh Free Insurance: Who Is Eligible for Telangana's Indiramma Scheme? Check Benefits & Full Details

The Telangana government has announced a universal life insurance scheme that will provide Rs. 5 lakh coverage to every family in the state.

The programme, called the Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme, is set to roll out from June 2 this year and is expected to benefit nearly 1.15 crore families across income groups.

Indiramma Scheme
The announcement was made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and is going to be the largest government-backed insurance initiative in India to cover almost the entire population of the state.

Rs. 5 Lakh Insurance Cover for Every Family

Under the scheme, each family in Telangana will receive a Rs. 5 lakh life insurance cover, regardless of income level. The benefit will be extended to poor, middle-class, and even to higher-income households, a near-universal social security net.

The insurance is expected to be linked to the primary earning member or head of the family providing financial support to households in case of an unfortunate event.

One of the major highlights of the scheme is that beneficiaries do not have to pay any premium. The Telangana government will fully fund the programme, with an estimated Rs. 4,000 crore allocation in the FY 2026-27 budget.

Who Is Eligible for the Scheme?

Eligibility for the Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme is intentionally broad.

Any permanent resident family of Telangana will be covered under the scheme. Unlike many welfare programmes, there is no income-based filtering or requirement for BPL or ration cards, making it inclusive.

The only likely requirement will be basic identification and residency proof, such as Aadhaar-linked details.

How to Apply or Get Covered

The scheme is expected to be largely automatic, with the government using existing databases like Aadhaar and ration card records to enroll families.

For households not included in initial lists, registration can be done through:

Local government offices such as Gram Panchayat, MPRO, or Municipal offices

A likely upcoming online portal or mobile app for easy registration and tracking

Basic documents expected include Aadhaar card, family identity proof, and bank account details for claim settlement.
