The beginning of September 2026 will bring several changes that could affect consumers, taxpayers, travellers and car buyers. From a new process for international passengers leaving India to important deadlines for LPG e-KYC and income-tax returns, the first day of the month comes with several things to watch.
September 1 Rule Changes: LPG, Income Tax, Air Travel and Car Prices - Check 5 Major Changes
There could also be changes in fuel-related prices, while Tata Motors has announced higher prices for its passenger vehicles from September 1. Here is a look at the major changes that consumers need to know before the new month begins.
International Flights From September 1: Boarding Pass Stamping To Go
Travellers flying internationally from India will see a change at immigration counters from September 1. Passengers will no longer be required to have their boarding passes stamped as part of the departure process.

The Bureau of Immigration is shifting towards a digital-first system, under which travellers can present a boarding pass stored on their mobile phone or use a physical printout.
The change is expected to remove one step from the airport departure procedure. However, passengers will still need to complete airline check-in, security screening and immigration formalities and carry their passport, visa and other required travel documents.
LPG e-KYC Deadline: Customers Need To Act Before September
For domestic LPG consumers, August 31 is an important cut-off date. The deadline for completing e-KYC was extended from August 23 to August 31, giving customers additional time to complete the verification.
The process includes Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. Oil marketing companies such as Indian Oil, HPCL and BPCL have been urging eligible customers to complete the verification process.
Consumers who have not yet completed their e-KYC should check with their LPG provider or distributor regarding the applicable procedure before the deadline expires.
Income Tax Return Deadline
September also begins after an important income-tax filing deadline for a particular category of taxpayers. Individuals earning business or professional income whose accounts do not fall under the audit requirement for Assessment Year 2026-27 need to file their returns by August 31, 2026.
Eligible taxpayers using the presumptive taxation provisions may be able to file ITR-4, or Sugam, depending on their income profile and other conditions. The form is available for eligible taxpayers covered by the prescribed business or professional income limits, including the Rs 50 lakh threshold applicable to the relevant category.
Taxpayers should make sure they are using the correct ITR form and have reported their income and deductions accurately before submitting the return.
September Fuel Price Change: What Consumers Should Watch
The start of a new month can also bring changes in fuel-related prices. Oil marketing companies typically review rates for aviation turbine fuel, commercial LPG and CNG-PNG around the beginning of each month.
Any revision can have a knock-on effect across different parts of the economy. For instance, ATF prices influence airline costs, while changes in commercial LPG and gas prices can affect businesses, transport operators and other commercial users.
Whether rates actually change on September 1 will depend on announcements made by the respective companies.
Tata Motors Cars Price Hike From September 1
People planning to buy a new car will have another change to consider. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has announced that prices of its cars and SUVs will rise by up to Rs 25,000 from September 1, 2026.
The price revision covers the company's range of passenger vehicles, including models powered by internal combustion engines as well as electric vehicles. The amount of the increase will not be identical across the range and will depend on the particular model and variant.
Customers who are close to booking a Tata Motors vehicle should therefore check the applicable price before finalising their purchase, as the revised rates will take effect from September 1.
