SBI to Revise Cash Withdrawal Charges From October 1, 2026: Check New BSBD Account Rules & Free Limits
State Bank of India (SBI) is set to revise the cash withdrawal charges for customers holding certain Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts from October 1, 2026. The updated rule will affect customers who make more than the permitted number of cash withdrawals through the branch channel in a month.
SBI to Revise Cash Withdrawal Charges From October 1, 2026
Under the revised structure, four branch cash withdrawals will remain free each month. Once a customer crosses this limit, every additional branch withdrawal will attract a charge of Rs 15 plus applicable GST.
SBI BSBD Account To Be Affected From October 1?
The revised charge applies to SBI's Basic Savings Deposit Account covered under product code 1011-1701. The change is linked specifically to cash withdrawals made through the branch channel.

This means customers should not interpret the revision as a new minimum-balance requirement. The BSBD account will continue to be a zero-minimum-balance banking option, while the new fee is connected to the frequency of certain cash withdrawal transactions.
SBI Withdrawal Charges: Check New Rules
Customers with the affected SBI BSBD account will continue to receive four free cash withdrawals every month at branches. Any withdrawal beyond those four transactions will attract the new charge. The fee will be calculated separately for each additional withdrawal, with GST charged over and above the Rs 15 fee.
For instance, if a customer withdraws cash from an SBI branch six times during October, the first four transactions will remain free under the specified limit. The fifth and sixth withdrawals will each attract Rs 15 plus GST.
This makes the number of monthly branch transactions an important factor for customers who frequently withdraw smaller amounts.
The revised charge could have a greater impact on customers who regularly depend on physical bank branches for their everyday cash requirements. Such account holders may include people receiving salaries, pensions, government benefits or other regular payments into their BSBD accounts.
Customers making several small withdrawals may therefore need to keep track of their monthly transaction count. A withdrawal that appears insignificant individually could result in a fee once the four-transaction allowance has been exhausted.
At the same time, customers who make four or fewer eligible branch withdrawals in a month will not incur this particular charge.
Key Features and Transaction Rules of SBI BSBD Accounts
The Basic Savings Bank Deposit account is designed as a simple banking facility for customers who want access to essential savings and payment services without maintaining a prescribed minimum balance.
The account can be useful for customers who primarily need a basic account for receiving money, keeping savings and making occasional withdrawals. However, BSBD accounts have their own terms and transaction conditions, which can differ from those applicable to standard savings accounts.
Therefore, customers should check their exact account variant before assuming that the new charge applies to them.
How SBI Customers Can Avoid Extra Withdrawal Charges
Customers who regularly use branch services can reduce the possibility of additional charges by planning their cash withdrawals. Instead of making multiple small withdrawals during the month, eligible customers may find it more convenient to consolidate their cash requirements where practical.
Keeping track of branch withdrawal transactions can also help. Customers can use their account statements, transaction alerts or passbook entries to monitor how many eligible withdrawals they have already made during a particular month.
Those who are unsure whether their account falls under the affected BSBD category should contact SBI or their home branch and verify the account's product details before the new charges take effect.
SBI BSBD Account Rules: Branch Channel Is Important
One important point is that the revised charge is specifically linked to the branch cash withdrawal facility for the specified BSBD account. Customers should not automatically assume that the same fee structure applies to every SBI savings account or every method of withdrawing money.
Different SBI account categories can have different service conditions and charges. Similarly, fees may vary depending on the banking channel and type of transaction.
The revised SBI BSBD rule will therefore be most relevant to customers who frequently visit branches to withdraw cash and exceed the four free transactions available each month.
