8th Pay Commission: What Could SSC Posts Salaries Look Like? Here’s What We Know So Far

Apart from central government employees, candidates preparing for Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams, are also eagerly waiting for details related to the proposed 8th Pay Commission.

From SSC CGL to CHSL to MTS and GD Constable posts, lakhs of candidates who are preparing for SSC jobs are curious about how much salary hike is expected on these government jobs after 8th Pay Commission implementation.

The government is yet to release an official statement regarding 8th Pay Commission, here are details about expected salary hike and changes after its implementation.

What is 8th Pay Commission?

The central government sets up each pay commission to review pay, pensions and allowances for its workforce. THe 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016, and the formation of 8th Pay Commission is under process. At the centre of salary revision is fitment factor, which is the formula used to fix new basic pay from the previous structure.

What Is The Expected Fitment Factor Under 8th Pay Commission For SSC Posts?

Under the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor stands at 2.57, and several media reports indicated that hte 8th Pay Commission may raise the multiplier and fix it between 2.86 and 3.68.

In case the higher range is approved, the present minimum basic pay of Rs 18,000 could rise to around Rs 51,000. Additionally, the actual figure will depend on pay level and final government decisions.

As per media reports, the in-hand SSC salary after 8th Pay commission is expected to fall between Rs 70,000 and Rs 1,00,000 for SSC CGL, Rs 40,000 and Rs 60,000 for SSC CHSL, Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 for SSC MTS and Rs 50,000 and Rs 70,000 for SSC GD Constable.

SSC CGL, CHSL 8th Pay Commission SSC Salary Projections

SSC CGL roles like Assistant Section Officer, Income Tax inspector and Excise Inspector come under the highest SSC salary brackets. At present, in-hand earnings range roughly from Rs 45,000 to Rs 80,000 per month. With the 8th Pay Commission, estimates suggest these could move to around Rs 70,000 to more than Rs 1 lakh, especially for staff posted in metro cities where HRA and transport allowances are higher.

SSC CHSL posts, including Lower Division Clerk, Data Entry Operator and Postal Assistant, also stand to gain from the revised structure. Presently, CHSL in-hand SSC salary generally lies between Rs 25,000 and Rs 40,000 each month. If proposed changes are cleared, this band may shift to nearly Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000, along with the possibility of better allowances and related financial benefits.
