Apollo Micro Systems Plans Rs 1500 Crore Greenfield Defence Facility in Telangana to Boost Domestic Ammunition Production
Apollo Micro Systems Limited and its subsidiaries plan a major greenfield defence manufacturing expansion in Telangana, backed by an investment of over Rs 1500 crores. The project aims to scale up domestic production of ammunition and advanced defence systems, aligning with the Government of India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme and supporting growing demand from both Indian and global defence customers.
The company states that this new facility will handle manufacturing and filling of warheads for missiles and rocket motors, along with small, medium, and large calibre artillery ammunition. It also includes integrated production of comprehensive ammunition systems for artillery, rockets, and other armaments. The initiative is structured to deepen localisation across the supply chain and reduce dependence on imported systems.
According to the stock exchange filing, "This strategic move marks one of the most significant expansions in AMS history and positions the company at the forefront of India's rapidly accelerating defence manufacturing ecosystem enabling it to meet the growing demand both domestically and internationally," said the company in a stock exchange filing. The filing underlines that AMS expects strong demand visibility from defence programmes.
In a separate statement, the company adds, "The project creates strong strategic synergies, strengthening AMS competitive advantage and accelerating its trajectory toward a leading position in India's defence manufacturing landscape," the company confirmed in a statement. Management highlights that the new set-up will support long-term contracts and complex mission-critical projects.

Managing Director Mr. Karunakar Reddy explains the broader intent behind this capacity build-up. Mr. Karunakar Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Micro Systems Limited, stated: "Our greenfield defence manufacturing project represents a powerful and transformational step forward significantly elevating our scale, technological capability, and strategic relevance to the nation. This expansion positions Apollo Micro Systems (AMS) to fully capitalize on the surging demand within India's defence sector, accelerate our growth trajectory, and further solidify our leadership in the indigenous defence ecosystem".
The capital outlay of more than Rs 1500 crores signals a long-term commitment to national security priorities and local industrial depth. AMS indicates that this spend covers land, buildings, specialised plant and machinery, testing infrastructure, and associated utilities. The group expects the project to create operational leverage, improve cost efficiencies, and enable larger, more complex orders in future years.
AMS notes that the greenfield complex is designed to strengthen manufacturing capacity and reinforce supply chain resilience while expanding its range of indigenous defence technologies. The company plans in-house, high-precision systems for sensitive applications, aiming to support National Security agencies with reliable, locally built equipment. Management stresses that this approach stays aligned with Aatmanirbhar Bharat objectives.
The project is also structured to integrate operations with group company IDL Explosives Ltd. "This initiative is highly complementary to the AMS long-term strategic vision, creating a deeply integrated and future-ready manufacturing backbone. The new facility will unlock strong synergies with IDL Explosives Ltd. Moreover, enabling us to seamlessly fulfil captive requirements of explosives for Artillery Shells, Moored Mines, MIGM, and Grad Rockets to name few. This unified capability positions the Group as a formidable force in delivering mission-critical defence solutions at scale at one roof. With this project, AMS is not merely expanding capacity we are strengthening our role as a national asset, enhancing self-reliance, and laying the foundation for sustained, high-quality growth in the years ahead," he further added.
