Defence explosives licence boosts Apollo Micro Systems as IDL Explosives gains industrial license for TNT and HMX

Apollo Micro Systems Limited reported a fresh milestone for its defence business, and the stock reacted. Shares of Apollo Micro Systems opened on the BSE at Rs 229.25 on 19 December. The price moved to an intraday peak of Rs 234.80, reflecting a gain of 3.64% from the earlier close.

The company informed exchanges that step-down subsidiary IDL Explosives Limited received an industrial license. The approval falls under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951. It covers production of high-energy explosives Trinitrotoluene (TNT) and HMX, also known as Cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine. The licence is valid for 15 years from its issue date.

Defence licence boosts Apollo

IDL Explosives is permitted to manufacture TNT and HMX at its Sunaparbat facility in Odisha. The licence allows TNT capacity of 500 MTPA and HMX capacity of 50 MTPA at the site. Management stated that this will help meet captive demand for defence applications. The company also expects to cater to both domestic and export customers in industrial and defence explosives.

Management linked the industrial licence to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat agenda. The approval positions IDL Explosives as an Indian source for high-energy materials. The company stated that this validates innovation, operations, and strict safety processes. It also underlined compliance with quality requirements for specialised defence explosives, as well as industrial use.

Apollo Micro Systems was founded in 1985 and operates in customised electronics and electro-mechanical systems. The company designs, develops, and manufactures such systems for specialised uses. Management described Apollo Micro Systems as an established name in this segment. The latest industrial licence is expected to deepen its role in defence-linked manufacturing within India.
