Fujairah Attack Prompts India to Demand De-Escalation and Safe Navigation Through the Strait of Hormuz
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the Iranian strike on Fujairah in the UAE. The incident injured three Indian nationals and raised concerns about attacks on civilian zones. Modi also linked the event to shipping risks in the Strait of Hormuz. India flagged the route’s role in global energy movement and regional stability.
New Delhi’s response followed a drone attack that triggered a fire at a major oil facility. The UAE blamed Iran amid rising West Asia tensions. The episode also strained a fragile US-Iran ceasefire around the Strait of Hormuz. Indian officials stressed de-escalation, civilian safety, and protection of key infrastructure.
In a post on X, Modi said, "Strongly condemn the attacks on the UAE that resulted in injuries to three Indian nationals. Targeting civilians and infrastructure is unacceptable." Modi also wrote, "India stands in firm solidarity with the UAE and reiterates its support for the peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue and diplomacy. Ensuring safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is vital for enduring regional peace, stability and global energy security,"

The ministry of external affairs also condemned the Fujairah incident as "unacceptable". Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable. We call for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians." Jaiswal reiterated support for "dialogue and diplomacy" and for "free and unimpeded navigation and commerce".
