US-ChinA Trade Agreement: Reciprocal Tariffs on Non-Sensitive Goods and AI Dialogue

China and the United States agreed a reciprocal tariff arrangement for non-sensitive goods. The deal covered $30 billion of goods each way. The two countries also decided to start a new bilateral dialogue on artificial intelligence. The steps followed Chinese President Xi Jinping's three-day state visit to the US.

China's state news agency Xinhua said the outcomes formed part of an eight-point consensus. The White House also confirmed the understanding on improved tariff treatment. Officials clarified the $30 billion figure described eligible trade value. It did not mean a $30 billion cut in tariff revenue.

The arrangement was operationalised through the US-China Board of Trade. Both sides agreed recommendations covering $30 billion of non-sensitive goods each direction. Before this step, both countries had agreed to extend the trade truce. The extension was for two months beyond the November 10 expiry date. It gave negotiators more time for a broader economic agreement. The latest move did not end the wider trade disputes. It added another channel for selected goods.

Reuters reported the arrangement involved setting up a bilateral trade council. Reuters also said both sides agreed to extend outcomes from earlier talks. Those earlier negotiations were held in Kuala Lumpur. The report framed the move as a practical way to manage tariffs in defined areas.
