US-Iran Diplomacy: April 9 Target End Date Emerges Amid Ongoing Talks and Mediation
Israeli media reports said the United States quietly picked 9 April as a tentative date to end the US-Iran war. Fighting continued, while indirect diplomacy appeared to intensify. Tehran was also said to be reviewing proposals that Washington sent through third-party mediators.
The report emerged soon after United States President Donald Trump paused threatened strikes on Iran’s energy sites. Trump said recent contact with Tehran was constructive. Trump also signalled a possible route towards a broader Middle East agreement, even as military operations carried on.
Yedioth Ahronoth cited an unnamed government official who said, "Washington has set April 9 as a target date for ending the war, leaving about 21 days for continued fighting and negotiations,". The report suggested a narrow window for parallel force and talks. Israeli officials reportedly tracked the process without full detail.
The same source said US-Iran talks were expected later this week in Pakistan. The report added Israel had not been briefed on those discussions. It also referenced reported US contact with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf. Qalibaf strongly denied any involvement in such outreach.
Qalibaf rejected claims of direct engagement and labelled Trump’s earlier remarks as "fake news". Qalibaf also accused the US president of trying to influence financial markets. Even so, Yedioth Ahronoth said Israeli officials believed indirect channels involving Qalibaf might already be active.
CBS News also reported that Iran received an American message through mediators. The report described it as a possible step towards formal talks. It quoted an Iranian Foreign Ministry official as saying, "We received points from the US through mediators, and they are being reviewed."
US-Iran war diplomacy after energy strike threat
Diplomatic movement followed Trump’s earlier ultimatum over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump warned of strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure. Trump later paused the threat after describing meaningful exchanges over two days. On Truth Social, Trump wrote: "I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST [sic],"

Trump later added that "based on the tenor and tone of these in depth, detailed, and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week", strikes would be delayed "for a five day period". Speaking to reporters, Trump said both sides saw about 15 areas of agreement. Trump added, "I think there's a very good chance we're going to end up in a deal,".
The wider conflict began on 28 February, after joint United States and Israel strikes on Iran. Tehran retaliated, and clashes spread across the region for weeks. HRANA said at least 3,220 people were killed in Iran, including 1,398 civilians and 210 children. The United States reported 13 deaths, while Israel listed 17.

As Israeli media pointed to 9 April as a possible end point, both diplomacy and conflict moved together. Iran was said to be studying ideas passed through intermediaries. Trump highlighted several possible areas of agreement, while Israel watched without full briefings. Casualty figures continued to rise across Iran, Israel, and the United States.
