US Travel Warning for Iran Intensifies as West Asia Tensions Escalate

The United States has issued its highest travel warning for Iran, citing rising tensions across West Asia. The US State Department has kept Iran at Level 4, which signals "do not travel". It has also told American citizens already in Iran to leave immediately. The advisory lists threats that include violent incidents and detention risks.

US consular support in Iran remains limited because the United States does not have an embassy there. Switzerland acts as the protecting power for US interests. However, the Swiss Foreign Interests Section in Tehran is temporarily closed due to the security situation. The Level 4 tag is the top category in the State Department system.

The advisory warns that US citizens may face questioning or detention by Iranian authorities.
