Billionaire Elon Musk is planning to delete the block feature from his social media networking giant, X, which was formerly known as Twitter. The Tesla CEO said that the block feature "makes no sense". However, he clarified that the block option will not be deleted from DMs. This news has taken netizens by surprise and the majority of them are not happy about deleting of 'block' option. Many have tweeted in the thread, trying to reason that the option safeguard users from threats, especially bullies.
On Friday, Musk replied to a post by a user named "Tesla Owners Silicon Valley" who asked about the reason to block versus mute someone on X. To which, Musk said, "Block is going to be deleted as a "feature", except for DMs."

He added, "It makes no sense".
But X users have relied on the same thread explaining why a block is needed.
Tesla Owners Silicon Valley replied to saying, "In my opinion, it's worth having. Unfortunately trolls and spammers come out. Haters will always try to get some fame over trolling accounts bashing their name through the mud and being able to control the experience matters. At least for reach user."
A blue tick user Cari Kelemen said, that muting means you can't see the muted account. Blocking means the blocked account can't see you. There are valid reasons for wanting to block an account. Example: publishing someone's physical whereabouts, which Elon has personally experienced. He should understand this.
One user further explained muting still allows people access to your posts & because Elon Musk refuses to get rid of the silly suspensions & banning of people, there are people who will spend all day reporting every post with the intention of getting you booted. They can't do that when blocked.
As per the Help Center of Musk's X, Block is a feature that helps you control how you interact with other accounts on Twitter. This feature helps people in restricting specific accounts from contacting them, seeing their Tweets, and following them.
The help center highlighted some important things to know about the block feature. These are:
- Accounts you have blocked cannot follow you, and you cannot follow an account you have blocked.
- Blocking an account you are currently following will cause you to unfollow that account (and then to unfollow you). If you decide to unblock that account, you will have to follow that account again.
- Blocked accounts do not receive a notification alerting them that their account has been blocked. However, if a blocked account visits the profile of an account that has blocked them, they will see they have been blocked (unlike mute, which is invisible to muted accounts).
- If you block an account and they choose to report your account, any of your Tweets that directly mention them will be available for them to view and attach during the reporting process.
- You will not receive notifications from accounts you block, or accounts that you do not follow who mention you in conversations started by accounts that you block. You will, however, see notifications from accounts you follow when they mention you in a conversation started by an account you block. If you'd like to view all of your mentions, you can do so by searching your username.
It also needs to be noted that blocking only works when the account a user has blocked is logged in on Twitter. Giving an example, the help centre explained that if the account you've blocked isn't logged in or is accessing Twitter content via a third party, they may be able to see your public Tweets.
Currently, Musk has not given any timeline as to when 'block' will be officially deleted from X.
