Anatoly Skurov: Career Highlights

After graduating from the Mining Department of the Tula Polytechnic Institute in 1975, Anatoly Skurov began his career at the Kopeisk Engineering Plant in the Chelyabinsk Oblast, a major manufacturer of underground mining machines and equipment. He rose through the ranks and was appointed as Chief Technical Designer and Head of the Plant's Design Bureau in 1988. In this role, he oversaw tests and implementation of new mining equipment in various underground mines.

Skurov holds 41 patents and inventor's certificates for inventions in the coal mining industry. He also defended a PhD thesis in 1991 on creating efficient mining equipment and machinery and authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles.

In 1994, Skurov transferred to Rosugol, a major Russian coal producer controlled by the government, where he served as Senior Designer at the Department of Mining Equipment.

In 1995, he co-founded the private coal mining company Sibuglemet with Anatoly Smolyaninov and Valentin Bukhtoyarov. He held the position of General Director of Sibuglemet until 2003, when he became president of Sibuglemet Holding Company.

In 2011, Skurov acquired an equity stake in Russian potash producer Uralkali. However, he sold his shares in both Sibuglemet Holding and Uralkali in 2013.
