Mobile phone

Aadhaar-based re-verification has been made mandatory for all existing subscribers of mobile phone services now. The government is instructing telecom operators to initiate the process soon.

Ration

Aadhaar mandatory for availing subsidized foodgrains from the ration shops. The Department of Food and Consumer Affairs has issued a Notification under Aadhaar Act on February 8 which requires individual beneficiaries having ration cards under NFSA to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication to receive subsidies under NFSA (i.e. subsidized food grains or cash Transfer of Food Subsidy under NFSA). The government has given time to those not having the biometric-based unique identification number to apply for Aadhaar by June 30.

Defence pension

IT returns

Now, the government made quoting the national ID number mandatory for filing Income Tax returns and also processing of Permanent Account Number (PAN) applications from July 1, 2017. Mid-day meals

More than a 100 million school children in India will compulsorily need the 12-digit unique identification number to avail their mid-day meal from 1 July. The central government has given children and their parent's time till 30 June to get the Aadhaar in case they don't have one so far.

Aadhaar was also made compulsory for scholarships and other schemes for backward castes and the disabled.

Driving license

The government aims to make Aadhaar card mandatory for all driving license applications and renewals soon. The plans will be put in effect by October this year. Using Aadhaar will counter the issuance of multiple licenses under different Regional Transport Offices to the same person. Biometrics of Aadhaar card is expected to make the verification process easier.

Government subsidy

The government of India provides certain subsidies to particular citizens however there have been instances when such welfare has been misused. The Aadhaar number was intended to help solve this problem and ensure that those who require welfare, and are eligible for it, get it. Aadhar is also supposed to be the identification that would prove a person's eligibility to enroll in government programs like Right to Education and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan.

For getting a new landline or mobile connections, the Aadhaar card can be used to replace KYC documents like identity proofs and evidence of address.

Bank accounts

The advantage of having a bank account linked to the Aadhaar number is that when and if you qualify for a government welfare scheme and you need to receive monetary advances, they can be transferred to the linked bank account post haste.
