Link Aadhaar- PAN In Two Steps: Deadline Is August 31

The last date for taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar card is August 31. Tax payers will have to link their PAN with Aadhaar by the stipulated deadline, which is 31st August as the Supreme Court verdict on privacy has no bearing on the requirement, UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey said earlier.

Earlier this month, the tax department had extended the deadline to link Aadhaar and PAN till August 31. The tax returns would not be processed until the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN is done.

The requirement for Aadhaar being quoted for availing government subsidies, welfare schemes and other benefits will also remain unhindered for now.

Aadhaar card uses

The 12 digit Aadhaar card number is currently required for availing services ranging from getting subsidized cooking gas, opening the bank account and obtaining a new phone number. Aadhaar is also mandatory for availing subsidized food grains from the ration shops.

How to link Aadhaar and PAN in two steps?

All income tax returns (ITRs) will be processed after the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN. The move is to curb tax fraud through the use of multiple PAN cards. Here is the two step process to link PAN card to Aadhaar card before 31st August.

 

Step 1

Visit the Income tax e-filing portal ("http://incometax indiaefiling.gov.in") and click on Link Aadhaar option on the left panel. Link Aadhaar with PAN Using SMS

Provide PAN, Aadhaar number and enter your name exactly as given in the Aadhaar card. Avoid all the spelling mistakes, enter the code given in a box and click on submit.
