To get a pension one should have the PPO number, and if someone forgets the number, the pension can halt. It is an essential tool to submit your life proof, which one needs to submit each year, to get the pension benefits. Without life proof or life certificate, one can stop having the pension further. Using the PPO number, a retired employee can transfer his/her pension account from one branch to another. If one has any kind of pension-related complaints, via the PPO number, one can file a complaint online.

The PPO number is important for any communication with Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO). CPAO is an 'intermediary link between pension sanctioning authority and pension paying authority (Pay and Accounts Office) and the pension disbursing bank'.
